ITs a bummer imo. He had quite a bit of 1:1 coverage. Not sure Keenum looked for him much at all.

One more game till Kombucha Guy can come back...

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

A 1st round draft pick that is, in essence, the #5 WR on a NFL team? Stupid bad.

How has Wright been more productive?

Well over the past two years, even while in the coaches' doghouse for whatever reason, Wright still has 2.5 times as many catches, for about twice the number of yards, and 2 TDs compared to 0 for Treadwell.

I don't believe Sticky was referring to last year at all.  How do they compare this year in catches, target, yards and snaps?

So I guess one can't say "Jarius Wright has been way more productive".

Also:
Wright - played 45 snaps this year so far
Treadwell - played 117 snaps this year so far

Probably cause Treadwell's skill set is larger?

Well, in 38% of the number of snaps, Jarius only has 1 less catch for 3 less yards but has at least scored a TD.  So I would consider that being more productive.

"way more"???   Don't think so.   Wright plays only in certain situations where his limited skills work.   Far less flexible than Treadwell.

Treadwell only has almost 3 times as many snaps so far this year than Wright. 'Limited skills' of Wright? What skills does Treadwell have? I haven't seen any....looking forward to that day, I just don't think its coming.

Why does it take 3 years for all these first round picks to develop?
what a waste...

50% of 1st Rounders bust. Should half the League skip the first round?

If Treadwell busts this is still the FO.that picked the 2nd and 3rd ranked WRs so far.

Personally, I liked the gamble. Tready crushed SEC competition. Had what I constantly referred to as that intangible' IT' factor.

So far it ain't translating. So what does Rick do about it? Double down with Floyd.

Doesn't sound like a move that a GM who won't admit to a potential bust would make.

Honestly, all the hamdwringimg makes me wonder if some folks around here would be happier as Browns fans.

Just a waste for 3 years, then if they have a decent year they negotiate a big contract or else move on to another team. Unlike Diggs who we got production from in year 1.
Waynes is another example on the defensive side.

Just to add some gas to fire, guy on NFL Network this morning said that he's been hearing that the Vikings front office is "the envy of the league."

then by your definition Rhodes was a borderline bust as well?  he really struggled at times his first few years and had many wondering if he was going to ever turn his head around.

I would take it he hates Bradford then as well.  And CC.  And just about any WR not named Moss.

Same front office that drafted Diggs in the 5th round, brought-in and developed UDFA Theilan and just extended him to a affordable contract also drafted Treadwell in the first round.  Some first rounders never live up to the hype and only about 50% even become regular starters in the NFL.  A 5th rounder has a less then 10% chance of every becoming an everyday starting player.  Odds of a UDFA are 1%.

So we can all pick and choose data points and concentrate on only the hits or only the misses (which a poster is doing in year two of Treadwell - too early) but when you look at the GM's total job responsibilities which includes drafts, trades, free agents to resign, free agents to bring-in etc Spelly had done a very nice 5 year rebuild.

those that want to undermine Speilmans efforts forget that Childress had final say on personnel in his tenure here and Frazier wasnt his hire either.  Zimmer is really were we need to start measuring Spielmans track record IMO both on and off the field because he cant find talent if the coaches cant identify traits that they can work with within their preferred systems.   I remember an interview with Rick a few months after Zimmer got here and he said flat out that Zim was the first coach that was able to explain what they want in a football player for him to go find and draft/sign.

I have no problem with them having drafted Treadwell. But the guy is a bust so far. No denying it. He may turn it around. But if he doesn't I'd be upset if the team doesn't cut bait and move on.

I'm surprised - and yet not - when people on these boards complain about "handwringing" or any other discussion of the problems the Vikings encountered. Yes, I'm delighted that we're doing pretty well at 2-1. But --

  1. This is a pasttime/hobby for all of us. We're interested in our team enough to talk about it 7 days a week even though a game is only played once in that period. Many of us identify with the management of the team, and since it is a hobby activity, we think about things that generally translate to: How could the team get better?? There would be room for improvement even on a 3-0 team.
  2. So we are 2-1; great. But what has been our season-end status for the last 57 seasons? A loss. In this century, we're under .500. This franchise really hasn't earned faith beyond fans saying, "So far so good" to a 2-1 start.
  3. Is it a binary decision - we can either be delighted or cheer for the Browns?
Mostly, talking about Treadwell's challenges - or which QB should hold our future, or how good our OL really is - is just a diversion and hopefully fun. Maybe someone should start a sub-board called "Happy Thoughts Only".

To me, the difference is that we've seen Diggs and Thielen develop into Harrison/Waynes. It's tough to see many reps with these two shredding secondaries. Teams have a hell of a time covering either one on one. They are coming into their own at the same time. Treadwell has seen some 3rd down stuff, but it would be tough to justify using him more just to use him. WR can take guys some time to "get" it. Guys with his size speed frame combo, need to get precise on routes and body position. This can be a big adjustment from the semi-playground ball seen in college.
