Jaren Hall
I hate to say it, but Kirk's injury is somewhat of a blessing to get to see what we have in Hall. I personally feel like he can come in and play well. I thought he flashed a little in preseason and it's more a case of absorbing the offense, which is complex. He's had half a season sitting and learning. He's mobile and can make all the throws. He's older, and has played a lot of football. We have a tremendous supporting cast especially when Jefferson returns. I'm excited to see if he can be "the guy" and think he's got a chance here to be successful. Vote of confidence here for the kid. KOC needs to put him in position to be successful and luckily we are hitting a soft spot in the schedule.
O'Connell yesterday:
"Rookie Jaren Hall replaced Cousins on Sunday at Lambeau Field, completing 3 of 4 passes for 23 yards while also losing a fumble on a sack. O'Connell said he called passing plays for Hall in what would otherwise have been a run-heavy portion of the game largely because he wanted to see how Hall would perform, knowing even then that Cousins was almost certainly lost for the season.
"I did want to see Jaren go in the game and function," O'Connell said. "A lot of the feedback that I got from guys in the huddle is that he was outstanding calling plays. Cadence, snap counts, center-quarterback exchange, those are all things that go through your mind. ... I was using some of those opportunities to show Jaren my confidence in him, but also give him some opportunities to play quarterback.
"... We'll continue Jaren's process of getting him ready to go each and every week, if he ends up being the guy."

He's basically a turnover dispenser, as likely to hit the CB/Safety as he'd be to hit JJ/Addison.@"NorthernCalVike" said: I just heard that were taking with the Saints trying to make a trade for Jamies Winston. Not sure If i like that idea. Would rather just ride with Hall and see what we got. With Cousins out for the year and Winston riding the bench in New Orleans, reports have stated that Justin Jefferson has already contacted Winston about coming to Minnesota. The pair reportedly worked out together this offseason. It would be a reasonably easy trade to get done, as one would imagine the Saints won't want that much for him. Plus, Minnesota gets a veteran quarterback who can win games if given the weapons.
Here are 2 minutes of Jaren Hall as BYU completion. Runs, passes, and a catch for a TD on a throwback. Some big-time college competition in this pack. pic.twitter.com/oz8Q1Pvh3o

The way I see it, we run with Hall until Mullens is back at the very minimum. No used up veterans (Ryan), no scatterbrained washouts (Wentz), and for fuggsakes...please...no "bet the farm on fragile, overrated disasters (Murray)".
Hall for the moment. He's been working with our team, our staff, and will have Kirko helping with film, etc.

This pretty much is where I'm at too...
Zero need to put draft capital into another QB right now. Maybe a pick-up for emergency.
Run with the kid, turn to Mullen if needed.
Then move on to 24.
I've just got a good feeling about Hall. He's smart, offers some athleticism, can sling it, and he is surrounded by a great supporting cast. I'm excited to see him play moving forward. If nothing else we'll KNOW what we have in him moving forward and to me that's a huge part of the quarterback equation heading into the offseason
Here's what I like about Hall: keeps looking downfield to pass....very mobile.....stout.....calm and mature.....underrated arm. He'll make the O-line look even better. Decent pocket presence. He has some tools. If KOC and company can modify the playbook to his strengths and get a little more out of the run game than they've been getting, who knows? I just wish the run game was more productive for him, that sucks. And KOC will have to simplify things, that's the downside of playing a rookie. He won't be changing plays at the line or calling out coverages.
I'm not trying to talk myself into something. I think there's some possibilities with Hall. We'll see.

Our only shot for this year is to get lucky with a Brock Purdy type situation and may as well see if Hall can be that guy. Since we are likely to need draft capital to move around in draft for a QB do not think we can afford to make any trades. I would be intrigued to bring in someone like Wentz to take Mannion's spot as a backup and see if KOC can be the guy to get his game back together.Agreed. We don't need Manion anymore to appease Cousins so if we can improve the QB room without giving up major assets to do it I'm all for it. I don't see any QB's available via trade that would be a better option than Hall for this Sunday. Sign a street free agent for depth and hopefully Mullens is ready to compete next week after he is eligible to come off IR. If we can pull off a win this weekend with Hall, and he looks serviceable, then let him ride as the starter. You can always go to Mullens after this week if he isn't ready yet but Hall's age and maturity and half a year in KOC's system facing Flores defense every week could end up being a nice surprise. I'm curious how KOC moves him around to take advantage of his mobility.

Thought it was sort of funny, the tv announcers couldn't understand why he was dropping back to pass deep in their own end. Little do they know what the coaches are intending to do or what they want to see. Having KOC show confidence in Hall to let him attempt to pass had to show they believe he can make plays when needed.

He at least looks like he can hit some intermediate routes and has some ability to throw on the run. It is going to be an uphill battle, but we’ll find out quick if he has a chance to stick around or notThis right here. Typically, when you have to start an inexperienced QB, teams shift to a ground centric game plan. Our running game this season has been anemic at best.
Maybe this will force KOC to resolve his inability to use the running game. I think much of it is going to the crutch of the passing game rather than sticking with it.
Hall will start on Sunday...just announced. Let's see what we got under the hood.

I'm not opposed to signing the Easter Bunny to replace Manion on the PS. Or Ragnar. Or Olaf the Snowman. Anyone but Manion!

You still wanna go full Fonzie, just admit it.
If he has a good game or two I'll probably go with you. :p
Kevin O'Connell Announces Vikings Starter After Josh Dobbs Trade
The Minnesota Vikings made a move for a quarterback Tuesday, striking a deal with the Arizona Cardinals for Joshua Dobbs hours before the NFL trade deadline.
Minnesota added Dobbs because starter Kirk Cousins is done for the season with a torn Achilles. Dobbs, who started the eight games of the year for Arizona, was available because Kyler Murray is on the verge of returning from ACL surgery.
While it's expected that Dobbs will eventually see significant time for the Vikings, it might not be this weekend. Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell said rookie backup Jaren Hall is being prepared to start Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
O'Connell said it is possible Dobbs could play as well.
