Kendricks cut:  saved $9.5 million against the cap
Thielen cut:  saved $19.9 million against the cap
Z. Smith wants out:  would save $15.5 million against the cap
IF IF IF they let him out, am I correct that changes our over/under the cap from $24.4mm over the cap to $20.5mm under the cap?

Looking like a re-made roster is a comin'.

It'll be an interesting ride.  Probably going to have to start getting better at drafting soon.

I read somewhere that after the cuts of AT and Cam they were nearly $120 million under the cap for 2024.
Rogers deal is gonna take a lot of cap space to fit in.

Rogers?

One last run with the Captain and then retool next year?

It's possible. I read the Vikings rank 5th in most cap space in 2024.

Well that's assuming our only veteran player is like ONeill right?

Vikings can do create a lot of cap space.  Here is a Q&D plan ...

https://overthecap.com/calculator/minnesota-vikings

Season  :  Cap Space2023  :  ($7,436,216)2024  :  $120,221,739

Cut H. Smith: Saves $7,379,999Cut Hicks: Saves $5,000,000Cut Ham: Saves $3,050,000Cut Reed: Saves $2,500,000Trade Cook: Saves $7,898,727Trade Z. Smith: Saves $12,156,861Extend Hockenson 4 yr 58M: Saves $5,500,000Restructure O'Neill 12M: Saves $9,000,000

Season  :  Cap Space2023  :  $45,019,9592024  :  159,534,562
Extend Jefferson 4 yr 130M: Costs $7,000,000Extend Shelley 2 yr 8.5M: Costs $1,330,000Extend Schlottmann 2 yr 2.7M: Costs $580,000Extend DePaola 2 yr 2.875M: Costs $664,167

Season  :  Cap Space2023  :  $36,445,7922024  :  $125,279,562
Sign DL Greg Gaines (26.8 years old) 3 yr 15M: Costs $2,210,000Sign EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (27.8 years old) 3 yr 18M: Costs $1,710,000Sign CB Cam Sutton (28 years old) 3 yr 27M: Costs $2,210,000Sign LB Germain Pratt (26.8 years old) 3 yr 30M: Costs $3,130,000Sign S Taylor Rapp (25.2 years old) 3 yr 22.5M: Costs $3,210,000

Season  :  Cap Space2023  :  $23,975,7922024  :  $82,099,562
Extend Hunter 3 yr 88M (with 2 void years): Costs $5,000,000

Season  :  Cap Space2023  :  $18,975,7922024  :  $68,339,562 (only 36 players)
2024 Cap HitsJefferson: $26,000,000Hunter: $25,00,000O'Neill : $22,689,111Hockenson: $14,171,000Cousins: $12,000,000 (dead money)Pratt:  $12,000,000Sutton: $10,920,000Phillips: $8,833,334Rapp: $7,920,000Okoronkwo: $6,420,000Gaines: $5,920,000Shelley: $5,420,000

I figure the team could get 3.98 or 4.110 for Z. Smith from the Browns.
Not sure about Cook but Miami seems like a good candidate as they have no backs under contract.
I would want to offer this:  3.84 and a future 6th for Cook and 4.118

How would you draft if this was the scenario?

Dunno. Just know it doesn't include Cousins, Harry, Thielen, etc. But you can bet the salary picture will change dramatically between now and then.

you know,  Aaron, after he takes his obligatory 1 year in NY,  he announces his retirement and in Aug 2024 the boys jump on Vikings 1 and head to some hippy commune and beg him out of retirement.

leaving you with zero leadership on D.   not that I disagree,  but unless you are going for a full rebuild,  I dont think you want to completely remove all the veteran faces.
That leadership on D got us a 31st overall ranking. Can it get a whole lot worse?
Yes!!!  32nd!!

I’ve heard Harrison Smith is taking a team friendly deal. Still waiting for actual confirmation,

I too am surprised they didn’t make Theilen a post June 1 cut. That would have gone a long ways in addressing the cap.

Making it post June 1 would have added nearly $7 million on 24's cap.  Seems the Vikings wanted to get the pain over with quickly.

Yeah, they didn't want to move the money into 2024. A post June-1 cut also doesn't help you in the interim. Although you can designate a player now you need to carry the full cap hit until June 1.

Even saving $6-7M now opens up the potential to add a player. Most deals have lower cap numbers in year 1 so then by the time you reach 2024 any added player would effectively be taking Thielen's salary slot.

This graph is interesting and why I thought we'd probably end up with about $20M under the cap. Vikings were $12M over, but if they restructure half of the eligible money, they would have about $21M. They could choose to do less or more depending on the players they want to target and what they want future years to look like. But the flexibility is there for $42M if they choose to use it. Could explain whey they're pursuing OBJ.
