Dalvin not interested in a pay cut
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it. — Robin Williams
bye
Bye Dalvin, it was fun while it lasted.
He's in for a rude surprise when he sees his offers after his release. Nobody is coughing up $11 mil for a 28- year old RB. And if they do, the joke's on them after he gets his next injury (which is overdue).
Too many cheaper options with a stacked Rookie class. I wish him well. I'm happy with Ty Chandler, Kene, and a soon to be drafted Rookie as our Running Back by Committee. Cook is a luxury we can't afford, and the injury risk is too great with his age and history to tie up $14.1 Million(Cap Hit) versus cutting him and saving $8 Million in Space we can use in more important areas, especially in KOC's offense. Finding a capable #2 Receiver to replace Thielen's inevitable cut is a much bigger priority than keeping Cook at his inflated price.
Should have titled Cook wants to be a free agent
I don't blame him. This is a business. He has a limited number of seasons to make money. I actually don't blame any player.
Of course he's not going to take a pay cut. An extension to reduce his hit? A restructure? Sure. But a 27 year old 4X Pro Bowler who ranked 6th in rushing yards and played all 17 games is not going to take a pay cut. Viking fans once again manufacturing outrage.

.....and yeah so bitter against the guy for some reason. Don't get it. He's a weapon and now the outrage because he has the audacity to what, exactly....want to get paid what the Vikings agreed to pay him? What an asshole (eye roll).

The NFL is a straight up business...trade Dalvin and get what you can for him and move on. Fix the cap and acquire more draft picks...

I haven't seen any "outrage". Not like Kirk Cousins outrage. Cook deserves to get the most money he can, but I don't think that will be here. Not because he hasn't performed or been a great leader on this team. He has done all of that and then some. KOC talks about having a balanced offense, but the reality is we are pass first team and the decision to move on from Cook is purely a Math problem and how much money they want to allocate to the Running Back position. If they can figure out a way to keep him and fill in the other holes they have including Center, a #2 WR, and the defensive needs, I'm all for it. If the draft wasn't filled with RB studs that can be had in the later rounds at a much cheaper price, things might be different. I agree with Jimmy that if he is serious about not willing to negotiate with the Vikings, he won't be here. Ultimately the Free Agent RB Market and the draft is going to determine what happens.

Outrage? Something is being manufactured, but it isn't outrage.

That (outrage) may not be the exact right word... but there have been a lot of negative responses about many Vikings players, coaches (including O'Connell), and our GM over the past couple months.Like there are some legitimate complaints, but some of it feels like beating a dead horse... and the acknowledgement of the things this years Vikings team did well come with a 'yeah but' attached to it.
Just my impression from reading the board this season. Would have thought there would be a little more positivity considering we had a 1st year HC who showed he's a keeper by changing the culture, keeping guys motivated in-game where we did some of our best work in 4th quarter/comeback victories, and clinched the NFC North by Thanksgiving.
Don't take this as we all have to agree about everything. It's not that. Just a reminder that we don't have to have an all or nothing attitude. Goes both ways.
Why would he suggest he wants to take a pay cut before the Vikings even ask? That would be a poor negotiating tactic.
I was wondering why he would suggest it now actually
I don't know all of the financials but I hope he's back. Dalvin isn't = AD but this discussion is reminiscent of fans looking at the big money and thinking we can toss him to the side and plug in whoever and get similar results... then we got a season of McKinnon and Asiata stinking out the joint.
If the Vikings move on from Dalvin they better at least bring in a David Montgomery-type who is a proven producer rather than assuming Ty Montgomery who has barely ever played, Kene who is fast but small, or even Mattison. I'd be skeptical that guys who are unproven can step right in and get similar numbers to what Dalvin brings. That's a big gamble for a team that will probably once again be leaning heavily on the offense to win games.
Sometimes a committee of JAGs works. Philly, KC, BAL for example, but they all have a mobile QB threat as well. Other times teams want or even need real talent at the position (SF, GB, and I'd say MIN).
Kene is not small, 6'1" 210, Cook 5'10" 210, Mattison 5'11" 215, Chandler 5'11 204. Production is more than size and speed. Fast Kene doesn't have the make you miss moves in close, he makes you miss with wrong angles, open field running. Dalvin has a different skill set that snaps ankles up close.

he wasn't napping many ankles this year---seemed like a lot of 2-3 yds and fall down for any pop.

One other attribute Kene has that I appreciate, is his focus, he is a stone cold player, he will deliver when you need it the most. Plus, he is an engineer, what more can you depend on.
