Much more complicated than that.  I think TJH was the first read and they went to that well one to many times.  Giants switched up their defense, KOC made a bad call and Cousins should have audibled out of the called play.

Listening to KFAN, Lawrence looped around Bradbury and Cleveland and got to Cousins before he had time to let the routes develop so he heaved it  TJ hoping for a prayer after the catch. 

How the heck do we acquire a stud like Lawrence for our IDL?

KC got the s hit kicked out of him all year and he came up big. But we cant count on him being an ironman forever. 

Zimmer only had hard ons for DB's and we settle on picking up tier 2-3 FA's instead of scouting true studs. Same has been true for interior OL. This team likes shiny things.

The bottom falling out on Kendricks has been hard to watch this year. 

I’m coming back to this a day later with nothing much to add but to reiterate— WTF!

We failed to get JJ the ball much (at all?) in the second half but that aside, Kirk played so well all game. But I seriously have no idea what he was doing on the last play. Hock was blanketed and way way way short of the line to gain. Pitiful and baffling.

I also agree with whoever said that TJH had been money all day. If they want to get him the ball on that play I love that idea. Just do it 10 yards down the field. Bitter ending to a fun year.

The bottom falling out on Kendricks has been hard to watch this year. 

As bad as our MLBs were at getting off blocks and making stops in the run game,  why didn't they just roll with smaller faster LBs or DBs that actually had a chance to make plays in the passing game.  It was sad how easy they were able to exploit EK yesterday over and over by running a route through his zone,  watching him bite and then just throw out to the flat that he was also responsible for.   That is more on donatel imo.

That was such a big part of our offense last year. And to watch Brock Purdy do it a half dozen times in the same basic offense, it made me wonder why we stopped. 

Isnt it interesting how being really good at offense and situational football got em to what 12 wins? In spite of a D reminiscent of Les Frasier or Les Steckels?

Goff/Stafford rarely do rollouts for LAR either. None of the three—including Cousins— are very mobile so I’m not sure if McVay and KO are just playing to “strengths” (re: masking weakness) or if that’s just the system.

But yeah. Offense needs tweaking. Defense on the other hand needs a significant teardown and I’m not sure where the money or picks will come from. Currently we don’t have much of either and if you start losing guys like Hunter or Smith or Smith who are all making big money that’s great, we saved some money. But who is out there and available to replace them? And will they be an improvement? Sadly we’re left with a lot of giant question marks after what in my opinion was a good season.

Jefferson, the first-team All-Pro pick who finished the regular season with a league-leading 128 catches for 1,809 yards, said the defensive attention in his third season reached new heights.
"I got to learn that's my life now," Jefferson said. "I got to worry about those doubles and triple teams from now on, but I feel like did a tremendous job doing what they needed to do when the ball was thrown to them."
Jefferson kept a positive outlook after the loss when asked about O'Connell's first year.
"Coming from that Rams type of offense with Coop, and him transferring that to us is definitely the reason I've had so many yards, catches," Jefferson said. "But it's more than just him: The O-line has been doing a great job all year, Kirk has been doing a great job looking for me, especially in those 50/50 moments."
The Vikings offense will likely look different next year with players like center Garrett Bradbury and running back Alexander Mattison headed for free agency.
"Adds to the frustration, adds to the disappointment because we did feel we had a team that could go a long ways," Thielen said. "Obviously, you can think what you want, but you got to go prove it on Sundays. We didn't do that."

KC had 4 games of 10 yards or more rushing this year,  3 of 20 or more,  he totaled less than 100 yards on the season,  so the bulk of his rushing yards came in 4 games,  he had 5 games where he didnt attempt 1 rush.  31 total attempts on the season, ( less than 2 per game)  I dont want to ever see my QB be my primary or even secondary rushing attacker,  but there is no reason that he cant see 7 to 10 free yards and not take it and get down or out of bounds.  doing that 2 or 3 times a game steals first downs that extend drives that takes time away from opposing teams and give our D time to try and sort their shit out.   if he could take that free 10 yards ( like every QB does against our D ) when its there about 3 or 4 times a game,  I bet his hits and sack numbers drop significantly as he becomes more unpredictable and that also keeps LBs more honest and opens up more intermediate routes quicker as the LBs arent dropping into those passing lanes.

If KC wont do it, then find somebody who will.  same with rolling out when he senses pressure instead of trying to stand there and take the hit and hoping something comes open before getting hammered.

That's all well and good, but if we're talking about the last play, there were no lanes or escape routes. Kirk had to get rid of it. JJ was in triple coverage KJ was in tight coverage and not looking for the ball, and I don't think he could see Theilen who was also in tight coverage. Why TJ didn't take his route another 4 yds. who knows, but Cousins wouldn't have had time for the route to develop. 

It was a crap play that the Giants had played perfectly. End of story.

Of course, the biggest difference is that when we do it, there's typically a defender there to make it a contest. When it's done against us, Eric Kendricks is about 10 yards away. 

I listened to snippets fro both KOC and KC after the game...He had to toss that fast or it was going to be a sack. But yah, I would rather have seen a prayer downfield, even that situation. 

I would have rather seen the D hold the Gmen to a punt now and then too and not put us in that situation at all, 

or maybe he could have used his legs a bit to extend the play and give himself another tic or two for things to develop?  

He wont ever do that with the consistency most of us would like. We saw more this year than ever, but...

I suspect IOL got it handed to themselves from Lawrence (again) in that situation. KC wouldnt have had a prayer with the pressure up the gut. MAYBE Hurts, Allen or Mahomes. 

Here's a thought, maybe call a roll-out instead of straight drop back??? I dont recall many of those this season or screen passes. 

KC had 4 games of 10 yards or more rushing this year,  3 of 20 or more,  he totaled less than 100 yards on the season,  so the bulk of his rushing yards came in 4 games,  he had 5 games where he didnt attempt 1 rush.  31 total attempts on the season, ( less than 2 per game)  I dont want to ever see my QB be my primary or even secondary rushing attacker,  but there is no reason that he cant see 7 to 10 free yards and not take it and get down or out of bounds.  doing that 2 or 3 times a game steals first downs that extend drives that takes time away from opposing teams and give our D time to try and sort their shit out.   if he could take that free 10 yards ( like every QB does against our D ) when its there about 3 or 4 times a game,  I bet his hits and sack numbers drop significantly as he becomes more unpredictable and that also keeps LBs more honest and opens up more intermediate routes quicker as the LBs arent dropping into those passing lanes.

If KC wont do it, then find somebody who will.  same with rolling out when he senses pressure instead of trying to stand there and take the hit and hoping something comes open before getting hammered.

That's all well and good, but if we're talking about the last play, there were no lanes or escape routes. Kirk had to get rid of it. JJ was in triple coverage KJ was in tight coverage and not looking for the ball, and I don't think he could see Theilen who was also in tight coverage. Why TJ didn't take his route another 4 yds. who knows, but Cousins wouldn't have had time for the route to develop. 

It was a crap play that the Giants had played perfectly. End of story.

His lack of mobility makes him an easy guy to rush,  pretty easy to play it perfectly when you always know exactly where the QB will be standing on almost every pass plays.  He rarely steps up, he rarely slides, and he rarely makes teams pay for not maintaining their rush lane integrity.  This isn't about one play,  its about every play for the last 10 years that makes him so easy for teams to play perfectly.  If he had a tiny bit of mobility to go with his accuracy and other abilities,   he would be a SB contending QB,  and very likely be game planning for the niners tonight.  No the loss is not kirks fault,  but he could be doing more to help the team and play up to his money. 

Look at what has killed our defenses the last 10 years,   look at what Jones did,  look at what Brady and Prescott are doing tonight.   You don't have to run around like an idiot to keep defenses honest,  you just have to make them unsure. Of course this is as much on KOC as it is Kirk,   but this has been Kirk his whole career from what I've seen.
