Former #Packers OLB Za'Darius Smith is headed to Minnesota today for a visit with the #Vikings, per sources.

Smith's original deal with the #Ravens fell apart. Could he stay in the NFC North instead?

If the #Vikings were to land Za'Darius Smith, he could be the pass rusher on one side and Danielle Hunter the pass rusher on the other side. In the last season in which both were healthy, they combined for 28 sacks in 2019. Hunter had 14 1/2 and Smith 13 1/2.

Where do you put the odds that both would be able to play a full season?  Something like almost none?

i don't know about Smith, but Hunter was hurt both of the last two seasons. Do you think that makes him more likely to get hurt, or less? Just curious

No clue but I would think trainers/med staff have all kinds of charts for injury and re-injury broken down by body part, age of player etc...

In Hunter's case:  I think it was a herniated disc in the neck area two years ago and then a torn pec muscle last year, right?  Are those injuries related - IDK.

As far as D Smith, he is 29 and his was a back injury.  Again, I have no clue from an actual medical standpoint but everyone I know that has ever had back problems still does even after maybe some surgical reprieve.

So Smith backed out on a 4yr 34million with the Ravens - I don't know any details - but obviously he is looking for more than that.

I am in the camp to take a pass on Smith for age/back reasons but I am also in the camp that we should be looking younger and be in rebuild mode but I don't think Kewsi/Wilf are so who knows.

I really have pretty low expectations for this coming season,  I think the notion that KOC will come in and install an offense, learn playcalling, as well as how to be a head coach quickly enough to have a real shot at doing anything this year is really sporting the shades.  I see a lot of potential hurdles to success this year so I have kind of resigned to just sitting back and enjoying the ride.
Not hard to call plays better than the ass hat we had last year...ie no Fullback or TE fade routes and obvious 2nd down runs that get stuffed at the LOS every play. I just want to see a healthy, competent defense out there. I think that gives us the best chance to full evaluate everything because for the last two offseasons it has been difficult to analyze based on several game injuries and off the field distractions (Gladney, Griffen again, etc).

Put me on the no side of Za'Darius stictly because of injury concern and the depth of this DE class. If we do sign him and he stays healthy, then I expect him to be a very good player for us

What is Smith's injury concern? He has a back issue last year but prior to that had played 16 games in 3 straight seasons, which is pretty good by NFL standards. As a pure pass rusher he ranked top 5 in NFL efficiency in 2019 & 21. So if you can add him you would be foolish not to. There is no guarantee that Hunter is going to stick on the roster anyways, that still hasn't been settled yet.

I think I would rather see money spent on OL and try and win a race to 50.

Edge rusher is a much more premium position than a guard or center.

Still stuck on that rebuild thing, huh? :-) I see a rebuild sorta like I see the Cleveand thing. If you're gonna do it, do it all the way. Don't do it half-assed. And this team (with Cousins, JJ, Thielen, Dalvin, Hunter, Kendricks, Harry, Tomlinson, ISJ, etc) is so far away from a rebuild it's ridiculous.

When it comes to free agency, I think the idea is to eliminate needs in the draft. If you can find a corner, you draft an edge. If you can find an edge, you draft a corner.

Yea I am ridiculous being stuck in rebuild mode:)  I see age and injury history sneaking up on your list of players as well most have had peak years like Theilan/Harry.  Tomlinson??  ISJ will be in year 4 or 5 of wishful thinking.

I agree with your free agency/draft etc...

So are you for signing D Smith or not?  I am not because I don't think a 29 year old with a back injury history is a good enough risk/reward proposition but that is based my rebuild process that we are way more then a player or two away from even being a playoff team never mind serious contender.

I like taking that same risk on our current player like Hunter for obvious reasons and if he can be injury free for our rebuild would still be around 30 years old..me likee that risk/reward.

I hope I am wrong but I think you might be talking rebuild mode this time next year.

Some confusion. Zadarius Smith reps says he is signing with MIN, but Viking source has not confirmed that. But, there are positive sign. Will see - don’t want to mislead you

The concern is that it’s back surgery which is always one of the scariest injuries to come back from, especially in a physical game. He may be alright but I think that injury creates a lot of risk. I’d send big money to a good OL and good CB and draft best DE available at 12.
