Awww, its ok Jimmy.....don't cry about it. I guess you are above interviewing in a real way. The guy that reworked his contact to take LESS money to stay at Michigan before this last season:

The interview tactic of "I'm Jim Harbaugh, hire me" didn't work.

This fits what we've been hearing...We'll just never know who the dissenters were on the Vikings side of things.

I suspect he would have taken the job here if the fit was there and the $$.

I wish him well - he's got a nice gig at his alma mater. He'll be fine.

Surprising to me that no NFL team has come a calling until this year?

“There was a tugging at me that I was once that close to a Super Bowl and I didn’t get it. Some NFL jobs came open. I was contacted by the Vikings. For better or for worse, it was something I wanted to explore. I went in thinking, ‘I’m gonna have 100 percent conviction on this, and if they have 100 percent conviction on this, then it’s something I’m gonna do.”
But when the Vikings didn’t offer him the job, Harbaugh says he let Michigan know he won’t be looking for NFL jobs again.
“I called Warde and I asked him if he wanted me to be the head coach. And he said, ‘Yes, 100 percent.’ And I said, OK then. That’s what I want to do.’ And I told him, ‘Warde, this will not be a reoccurring theme every year. This was a one-time thing.”
Harbaugh says his focus now is a national championship.
“Sure, the Super Bowl is the greatest prize in our sport,” he said. “But winning a national championship. That’s pretty darn great. Let’s do that. There was a pull to the NFL because I got that close to the Super Bowl, but this was the time And this is the last time. Now let’s go chase college football’s greatest prize.”
Realistically, it’s unlikely that Harbaugh can really promise he won’t be tempted by another NFL job. If a team that appears to have most of the pieces in place to win a Super Bowl contacts him, is Harbaugh really going to say no? He might think he’s all-in on Michigan now, but this is probably not the last time we’re going to hear his name connected to the NFL coaching carousel.

If Harbaugh came in as reported expecting the interview to be a formality, you wonder if the Vikings were turned off by that kind of arrogance and decided he was not a fit for the new climate they were trying to create or if they just felt O'Connell was a better fit.  From the sounds of it, O'Connell came in with a detailed presentation that included a full evaluation of the roster, where as Harbaugh may not have bothered to know who the back up RB was.

yeah, who wants a proven winner with 20 years head coaching experience with the desire and motivation to win a Super Bowl in short order.

As long as we have people who say “hi” and smile at O’Neil in the halls

All my Michigan friends / colleagues who know my love for the Vikings were laughing their asses off...

Yeah, it's totally crazy for a guy to be disappointed that he didn't get a job he really wanted.   Geesus.  I see it as him being honest and disappointed.  Like said above, we don't know who put the Kabosh on this.  Perhaps, he had every reason to feel good about things, but one or two important individuals felt different.  But, it's always fun to just assume you know all the facts you don't know because you're lazy and want to believe a narrative.

I dont see the mocking point of his comments?  Sounds like he was pretty honest and humble in his assessment of the situation.  He wanted the job more than rhe Vikings wanted him,   now that he tried he is committing himself back to Michigan so whats to laugh about?  I also suspect his interview wasn't nearly a ready as others since he really wasn't in the market for an NFL job and only had a few days to prepare.  I am sure there was some arrogance on his part,  but his track record with the niners justifies a bit of an cockness imo.

I had read an article on Twitter this morning (Sorry, having troubles finding it on google) where it sounded like everything was going extremely well until like 3PM. At that time the Vikes demeanor changed and apparently the conversations were just different. My hunch is that the personalities didnt match up between ownership and harbaugh. If it isnt a fit then dont force it, especially when he carries a lot of the same personality characteristics as Zimmer. In the long run I think it's for the best.

Surprised he didn't use the tried and tested "nobody knows football more than I do."

I'm just curious if he'd be our coach right now if he'd simply taken a more humble approach--not assume the job was his, actually tried to learn something about our roster, and offer the suits a definitive plan moving forward. I mean that would be the expectation. We don't know what happened in those 9 hours, but I suspect Harbaugh's "plan" was insufficient....if he even had one.

I actually thought he handled being turned down very well.  I didn't think he spinned the outcome too much and he had good things to say about the organization.

I love the capacity of fans to seize only on information that fits their narrative.  Harbaugh is a crybaby who felt entitled and showed up unprepared.  Ok.  Just know that this narrative conflicts directly with reports that Harbaugh spent the entire day prior to the interview prepping with associates.  The dude is quirky, for sure, but open, caring and transparent are how he is routinely described and his statements here only back that up.  Most college coaches would have slunk away in secret to interview.  Harbaugh told his coaches and recruits.  He risked exactly what happened -- not getting the job -- in a very public way.  Most coaches would have put out a statement that they "withdrew" from consideration or that the process "reaffirmed that Michigan is the place for me" or some other BS.

I almost always give the Vikings the benefit of the doubt and do so here -- all things considered, O'Connell is the better fit.  And I'm no big fan of Jim Harbaugh -- though he did give me one of my favorite Viking moments, getting undressed on the sidelines by Ditka after audibling and throwing a game-changing pick -- but do we really have to demean the guy?  For what?  To assuage your insecurity that somehow we may have made a colossal mistake?

I think Harbaugh would be the coach right now if A-hole Zimmer wouldn't have traumatized a clueless ownership with the revelations that came out immediately leading up to and post firing.

Not only did Zimmer sabotage his own ability to coach the Vikings to a better win-loss record on a consistent basis thw fall out extended into the decision making process for the next head coach.  We can only hope KOC is as much of a coaching savant as Harbaugh because knocking it out of the park with prep work is one thing.  Having the players go to battle for you and being able to transfer that interviewing ability to team and game day management is another.

The "this is the last time" seems rather childish.  I don't know who started the flicker that fanned into a fire, but sheesh, he interviewed and maybe didn't nail it?  Tucking tail and whining doesn't show the maturity required at that level IMO.

If he wasn't in the market, why was he that into the Vikings?  A guy that interviews just to explore his options doesn't get all butt hurt.
