Jim Harbough Watch

Like I said in another thread, this is Kwesi's guy. This interview is about getting the Wilfs blessing/sign off/ fears quelled/questions answered.
Lock him up, get his staff, and lets start kicking asses!
NFL hirings can take surprise twists, but the expectation at Michigan from those I've talked to is Harbaugh will head back to the league. Several U-M sources said he began the goodbye process earlier this week, as @Balas_Wolverine first reported. https://t.co/Gf0W3xEM1D

Pep Hamilton...LOL
Full Stop...
It must have really pissed him off when they cut his salary. I think old Jim has a little revenge, get even in his character.
I go back and forth on Harbaugh. He's a high profile coach with a proven track record of success and he never bottomed out in the NFL like Quinn did. I like the idea of having a more experienced coach to compliment a young GM, though I would hope they would have good checks and balances in place. On the flip side, he had a falling out with Trent Baalke in San Francisco, though seeing what happened with Jacksonville and Leftwich refusing to work with Baalke casts that in a different light. His time in Michigan has been mixed and I get worried about his exit appears to be transpiring. Messy prolonged breakup with Michigan and interviewing for an NFL job of national signing day feels less like a ploy for a new contract than it initially did.
He's a good coach and it would certainly be a wild ride if he gets the job. Though I wonder if someone like O'Connell, Graham, or Morris might be a better long-term hire?
@"JustinTime18™" said:Man, P2 sure seems confident that he’ll be re-upped. I do hope he is, too.CB Patrick Peterson said he would be "thrilled" to play for Jim Harbaugh if he is in-fact hired to be the #Vikings next HC.
The Bears did hold talks with him, but it’s said he wanted a 10 year contract at $10 million a year. They didn’t want to commit so long term. If I were to guess, that could be a sticking point with ownership here as well. I don’t blame him at all. Who wouldn’t want to be able to avoid “contract years” every few?
It seems like they are down to Harbaugh and Patrick Graham as front runners. The contract will probably factor though.
A few interesting things I’ve read on Harbaugh:
* He wants nothing to do with front office/personnel control. Not his thing.
* Reading more into his 49ers time, Trent Baalke is the sole reason it went south
* In my opinion Baalke isn’t just a dink, he’s lousy at his job - horrible drafter
* The character Ted Lasso is based on him. He’s good friends with Jason Sudeikis.
* Is 100% driven obsessively to win a Super Bowl. Told Michigan recruit as much the other day
* Spent all day with an assistant preparing for this interview with the Vikings - he doesn’t view it as his by default
I’m most curious to see how he and Cousins get along. They’re both so weird, they might actually make a great pairing.
The most exciting part for me if he’s hired is his staff. He always has elite assistants around.
Lastly, I think Kwesi will likely be masterful dealing with him. He has the right kind of style, emotional intelligence to deal with Harbaugh’s idiosyncrasies.
I keep flip flopping on Harbaugh. The longer I think about it the more I like it.
Don't give a damn if he's crazy, off the wall, whatever.
If he brings the Vikes a SB I will wear khakis and I own nothing but jeans

Wow, 10 years is an eternity in the life of an NFL coach. If the Wilf's are stupid enough to agree to that they sure as hell better give them an out when Harbaugh's potential short shelf life expires.
@"prairieghost" said:@"JustinTime18™" said: https://twitter.com/i/status/1488859751915999234Cris must have a patsy within the organization still.
Yup, Cris must…I am very mixed on this dealio. The past success certainly is tantalizing but my biggest hope is that IF Harbaugh is the guy that he’s bringing some great coaches because they’re really going to have to coach up and show their chops with certain areas of the roster. We’ll be fielding a lot of new faces I believe.
I also can’t deny that I was excited about getting in on the ground floor of a guy like O’Connell.
The idea of 2 very strange/nerdy/weird people being front and center for our beloved team is a bit trepidatious for me, and so the Kirk and Jim cocktail wigs me out. Gotta hope for some awesome coordinators and position coaches to buffer the situation…
Maybe that mix is what the Vikings need. Look at the relationship between Tarkenton and Grant. Fran was/is a gregarious personality, a joker, and loved the spotlight, Grant was the complete opposite and it worked. Worked pretty damn well.

I don't know, the Wilfs gave Zimmer damn near 10 years and his shelf life was over 3 years ago. Not so unusual for them.
Not gonna lie, I am looking forward to seeing how training camp goes with a new coach. There are so many personalities and relationship dynamics at play, just seeing how a different approach impacts that will be interesting.
No matter what happens, we as Vikings fans will be disappointed.
The crowd that wants to go “New Young OC” for HC will immediately point out everything that is wrong with Harbaugh after the first preseason loss.
The crows that wants Harbaugh but somehow this whole thing falls through will do the same when the “New Young” coach loses his first game.
We love to hate each other and our team.
Hopefully better days are around the corner no matter who ends up coaching the Purple!
Actually, my nearly 62 yr old ass is genuinely excited… ;) B) :p
I'm not too big of a fan of Jimmy
Jimmy knows QBs though.
Here are Jimmy's QBs at Michigan ...
Jake Rudduck
Wilton Speight
John O'Korn
Shea Patterson
Joe Milton
Cade McNamara
... Yuck!
Keep Jimmy away from decisions about which QB to draft please.
Here is how I really feel about Coach Hairball ...

From PFT, I think they have it spot on:
"Harbaugh has new G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in his corner. Which should be enough. As we’ve said in connection with the Vikings, Bears, and Giants, these teams need to let their General Managers hire the coaches they want. The coach-G.M. relationship is critical to the functionality of a franchise. They need to be on the same page.
What better way to do it than to let the G.M. hire the coach he thinks he’d work well with?
There may indeed be others in the Minnesota organization who are leery about Harbaugh. With all due respect to any of those people, what has the team won while you’ve been there? It’s for ownership to understand the human factors that may cause some who feel threatened by change to get on board with it, if change is going to nudge the Vikings in the direction that ownership hopes they will go."
