If we can't put a double digit beat down on the Bungals, might be a long year.

With #Vikings having signed T Brian O'Neill to lucrative extension & saving $500,000 on the salary cap due to DE Stephen Weatherly's pay cut, cap analyst Jason Fitzgerald now has them with $4.311 million of room entering regular season. That ranks 17th among NFL teams in cap room

On Anthony Barr's absence from practice today, Zimmer said he was "a little sore" from practicing yesterday and "we'll see tomorrow"

Put LB on the off-season wish list.

Mike Zimmer said Christian Darrisaw didn't do much in his return to practice this week. He was limited on Wednesday, and we'll find out soon from the injury report what he did on Thursday.

Zimmer: "It’s going to be a long process."

Adam Zimmer called #Vikings defensive plays at times during the preseason. So who’ll do it to start the regular season?

“Unfortunately, I am,” Mike Zimmer said. “I might fire me — you never know. If we play bad I can fire myself. I just felt it was the best thing for the team.”

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson said he's "back to normal" from the shoulder injury suffered last month, and it should feel normal to again share a field with Bengals rookie receiver Ja'Marr Chase. They were Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow's top weapons for a record-setting LSU offense in 2019, with Chase and Jefferson leading college football in receiving touchdowns during that electrifying championship season. Now they'll be on facing teams for the first time.
"We've been sharing some words," Jefferson said Thursday. "Talk some trash, and just having a friendly conversation. But we're both ready for this game, and it's going to be exciting to go up against each other."
Chase, the fifth overall pick this spring, led the NCAA with 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns the last time he played a full season. He opted out in 2020. Jefferson wasn't far behind with 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns before he became a Vikings first-round pick. They had emphatically stamped a transformative two years together with the Tigers.
"We helped each other out," Jefferson said, "and it's great to see how far we have come and to see how much we have grown."
Chase gives the Bengals a dangerous trio at receiver, including Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. But Chase didn't show much in the preseason. He played 18 snaps, only three with Burrow, and dropped some passes. But Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson sees talent.
"All the potential to be a great one in this league," Peterson said. "Not being able to see much of him throughout the preseason, so it's hard to judge on how they're going to utilize him or what position he's going to be playing. But a very, very talented receiver that has a lot of potential."
Vikings receiver Dede Westbrook appears set to play Sunday after logging another full practice, with Jefferson saying "the knee doesn't look like it's bothering him." Westbrook didn't play in the preseason while recovering from an ACL tear last year.

No Anthony Barr at Vikings practice this morning, during the portion open to reporters. Would appear likely that he's not going to play Sunday in Cincinnati. Means more Nick Vigil and possibly Blake Lynch or Ryan Connelly.

I never thought he was going to play, he hasn't practiced.

Vigil will be wearing the green dot and relaying defensive playcalls, Mike Zimmer says. He's been doing that in the preseason.

Mike Zimmer says Dede Westbrook will be returning punts on Sunday and should get some plays at receiver as well. He was a full participant in practice all week. Ihmir Smith-Marsette will return kicks.

I’m not sure we’ll see much of Barr this season, unfortunately…  :s unless he had that thing scoped in early August & is working his way back from that, why would it realistically improve w/ just more rest/treatment? Hope I’m wrong!

The last three times Minnesota beat Cincinnati was inside these seasons:

2017

2009

1998

 Interesting years for the Vikings.
