If we can't put a double digit beat down on the Bungals, might be a long year.

Rookie Ihmir Smith-Marsette was listed as the kick returner on Minnesota's Week 1 depth chart w/ KJ Osborn behind him. Zimmer said he likes ISM b/c he's fearless: "He’s got to take care of the ball better, I think, but he’s fearless returning the kicks and I like that about him."

Did Dantzler fall or did he just get passed? Or is he in Zim's doghouse? I have a hard time believing that he's a worse corner this year than he was last year.

I think the coaches like Boyd's physicality, something that Tiny lacks.

I've been informed that after losing out to DJ Wonnum to start #Vikings DE Stephen Weatherly took a $500,000 pay cut from $2.5 million to $2M in 2021 to remain with team Since he's a vested vet it'll be guaranteed for year Had he been released Vikings would have owed him $500,000

Very interesting. Seems these new NFL rules gives the team more flexibility in things like this.

The upside for Weatherly is he can earn $$ back. 2 sacks = $250K, can earn back up to $1M if gets to 8 sacks. #Vikings

"Alright Stephen hold your man and plug the run, we're gonna turn Smith loose" *Weatherly spin move and bumrush the QB* :p In all seriousness I'm glad he at least has some incentives to get that money back. The scummy Saints did Latavius Murray pretty dirty by asking him to take a paycut 2 days ago, after he had a great year last year. While I'm sure Weatherly is annoyed, at least it was "only" $500K and he can still get it back with a few sacks. Vikings typically take care of their own. This seems like more of that.

Receiver Dede Westbrook was a full participant Wednesday. Appears set to return Sunday from ACL tear; "he looks fast," Justin Jefferson said. "The knee doesn't look like it's bothering him."

Week one is always filled with surprises. Probably not a good week to bet on any games, but I'm with Barr. I would be shocked and horrified if this game is close. But, hey, I'm a Vikings fan. I've been shocked and horrified before.  :#
I think this is a game where the Vikings struggle to cover, maybe to win...Just a gut feel I have coming out of the pre-season and historically how we play against the Bungles and on the road.

This feels like another season where it might take 3-4 games for the purple to hit stride - even with the players and coaches all parroting the need for a fast start this season.

So all emotional rationale, and I hope I'm wrong as hell.

Weatherly in his last season here was a demon off the bench.  Played very well and platooning with Wonnum, Griff, and Jones, he should be able to have that impact.

I doubt we see Barr Sunday...Like I posted elsewhere, they better be ready to stop Joe Mixon as the first call to duty. Make them 1 dimensional and on the shoulders of Burrows to beat them.

Not having Barr hurts that a lot imo.

With Anthony Barr not practicing for the #Vikings today, I'm guessing he won't end up playing on Sunday. That would mean an every-down role for Nick Vigil against his former team, with Blake Lynch or Troy Dye the leading candidates to get snaps in base.

Mike Zimmer talked about Vigil today with Paul Allen, comparing him to former Vikings LB Chad Greenway:

"He's very smart, his personality is the same. They're very quick thinkers. I think he's a good player, he understands his role and he understands everyone else's role."

Christian Darrisaw went thru stretching and individual drills before going into the weight room with a trainer at the end of the period open to media. He was limited yesterday so we’ll see how much work he’s able to get done today.

Anthony Barr was absent from practice during the portion open to media. He’s the only player not here. Vikings 6th round rookie, Jaylen Twyman, who was shot 4 times in June and put on the NFI, came to observe practice today.

Mike Zimmer said he got together with Kirk Cousins to watch film on the Bengals defense. Said that was the first time he’s done that with Kirk and that he used to do that with Teddy… Cousins asked him to do it

Adam Zimmer: "We haven’t had a live rep as a full defense so that’s something we are looking forward to. Hopefully we gelled enough on the practice field that it’s going to look good on Sunday."
