Of course, its the Vikings....potential bad news on Darrisaw
.@DWolfsonKSTP just reporting that Christian Darrisaw was in Philadelphia on Wednesday seeing a specialist as his return from core muscle surgery continues to be an issue.

Well, we should be used to getting this type of news throughout the season.
Well, we were all hoping this wasn't going to be an issue for him.
Clearly there is concern about it.
Well… $@%#.
Without him and Davis, our “upgraded” O-line is suddenly not upgraded much at all.
Reiff out, Hill in
Dozier out, Dozier’s backup in (maybe)
Cleveland moving to the left sounds promising but these moves are not neary significant enough to improve what was a dreadful OL last year. Credit the FO for trying but now I’m wondering what it will amount to.
Hopefully the new line coach can get this unit to league-average. And I really hope Darrisaw is okay. Ugh!

Like I said when they were drafted, I didn't think it was likely that Darrisaw would start right away, and even if he did, most of our improvement would come from natural growth and development of Cleveland, Bradbury and O'Neill. While I did expect Davis to start at RG and upgrade that position, Udoh looks like a player who will be the kind of upgrade over Dozier we were hoping for.
Still, the Darrisaw news is not good. If he hopes to start at LT at some point this year, he's going to need reps in training camp and he's not getting them. Worse, Hill has had his ups and downs.
Can anyone provide insight as to how long he would be out with Core Muscle Surgery?
Wasn't Brandel a LT in college? Does this increase his chances of making the team, as a back up to Hill?
OC Klint Kubiak just said they're taking it slow with the top pick.

So it is groin? I also read Core Muscle on twitter. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT IS IT?!
I fully expect Darrisaw to heal and get out there at some point this year, but might as well play worst-case scenario. He goes on IR. What are our options?
1. Keep Hill at LT. Easily the most likely. He's solid--a tier below Reiff, very good in spot duty but less certain we can count on him for 17 games. I have confidence he can play and not hurt us too bad.
2. Moves from within: Is it time to move O'Neill to LT, Udoh to RT, Davis to RG? Cleveland to LT, Cole or Davis to LG? Udoh to LT (got some snaps there in camp), Davis to RG?
3. Free agents. Rick Wagner is a RT. Russell Okung is a LT. Mitchell Schwartz is a RT. Is Okung an upgrade over Hill?

I dont think they can count on Davis for anything right now...

So Cole then. Just trying to avoid putting Dozier anywhere near a starting role.
Tom P reporting Darrisaw had minor core surgery this morning.
Source: Vikings rookie Christian Darrisaw seeing core specialist for second opinion on groin injuryDarrisaw, the 23rd overall pick by the Vikings, was in Philadelphia on Wednesday visiting Dr. Bill Meyers of the Vincera Institute, a league source told the Star Tribune.
The Vikings' top draft pick, rookie tackle Christian Darrisaw, was away from the team Wednesday because he was in Philadelphia for a second medical opinion on his nagging groin injury, a league source told the Star Tribune.
Darrisaw, the 23rd overall pick out of Virginia Tech, was seeing Dr. Bill Meyers at the Vincera Institute, the source added. Meyers is the doctor who operated on Darrisaw in January. He's a well-known core specialist who has treated many professional athletes.
Darrisaw has yet to participate in training camp beyond individual offensive line drills. He's not expected to participate in Thursday's joint practice with the Broncos, the last training camp practice, and has already been ruled out by head coach Mike Zimmer for Saturday's preseason opener against Denver at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak said that's meant more work for swing tackle Rashod Hill, who has been the team's starting left tackle throughout much of the offseason.
" has been working his tail off," Kubiak said Thursday. "Cautious, taking it slow. When he's back, we'll take him. Otherwise, until then, getting a lot of good, extra work for Rashod."
Kubiak was asked how much time Darrisaw would need on the practice field to judge whether he's ready to start in the season opener on Sept. 12 in Cincinnati.
"I wouldn't put a number on it," Kubiak said. "Any player coming off a major injury, they're all different. I'd say when he's been here, he's been really sharp and really dialed in. Mentally, I don't think it'll be a problem. We just got to get his physical reps and get his conditioning."

Vikings first-round pick Christian Darrisaw underwent a minor core-muscle procedure on Thursday morning in Philadelphia, according to Darren Wolfson of The Scoop podcast and KSTP-TV and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Dr. William Meyers, who performed the initial core muscle surgery on Darrisaw last January, also did this procedure after the first-round pick visited him on Wednesday.
Wolfson reported Thursday morning on the Mackey & Judd Podcast on SKOR North that Darrisaw had gone to Philadelphia to see Meyers as he continued to struggle to return from the initial surgery. It isn’t clear if or when there was a setback in the process.
A source told Wolfson the news on Darrisaw’s procedure was encouraging, and Pelissero reported the hope is that Darrisaw will be ready for the Vikings’ opener on Sept. 12 in Cincinnati. The Vikings plan had been to immediately plug the 23rd pick in the opening round in at left tackle, but backup Rashod Hill has been getting all the first-team reps at left tackle and appears in line to at least open the season as the starter.
Asked on Thursday about Darrisaw going to see Meyers, who is considered a pioneer in the treatment of core muscle injuries and lists former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson among his past clients, Minnesota offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak said.
“I know he’s taking it one day at a time, working really hard with (athletic trainer) Eric Sugarman. I’ll let Coach (Mike) Zimmer comment on (the reports), but (Darrisaw) has been working his tail off. We’ve been cautious with him, taking it slow and when he’s back we’ll take him. Otherwise, until then, we’re getting a lot of good extra work for Rashod Hill.”
According to this story from March in the Roanoke Times, Darrisaw dealt with a groin injury last season at Virginia Tech. The injury caused a sharp pain in his thigh when he made basic movements, but by the time he went to see Meyers and get an MRI at The Vincera Institute in December the pain was gone.
The MRI showed a core muscle injury to Darrisaw’s groin, and Darrisaw decided to undergo surgery. Darrisaw was able to work with the second team at left tackle during the Vikings’ minicamp.
Darrisaw told reporters last Thursday that “physically, I feel great,” but Zimmer acknowledged a day later that Darrisaw’s injury was “just nagging all the time,” and that it was “one step forward, two steps back,” when it came to the rookie’s recovery.
Kubiak said he wouldn’t put a number on how long it would take to get Darrisaw ready once he’s able to play. “With any player coming off an injury, they’re all different,” he said. “I would say when he’s been here, he’s been really sharp and really dialed in. So mentally I don’t think it would be a problem. He’s just got to get his physical reps and get his conditioning.”
