A source confirms Christian Darrisaw was away from the team yesterday because he's getting a second opinion on his groin injury that he played through last fall and was surgically repaired in January.

OC Klint Kubiak just said they're taking it slow with the top pick.

So it is groin? I also read Core Muscle on twitter. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT IS IT?!

Don't worry, it's just a tweak.

The question I have is why is he just going to the specialist now and having this surgery?  Would think with the medical staff we have that they would be on top of this.

I think the hope was post-surgical exercise and healing would make another procedure unnecessary, and that some discomfort was normal for a while.

But it kept dragging on...Better to do it now I guess, a mos before @ Cinci.  Sounds like he still has a shot to contribute much this year. I'd really like to keep Hill as swing-tackle/depth.

He saw a specialist in in March and had surgery then. I don't think anyone could've expected the soreness to linger this long...or require another procedure.

More info from spring....

Darrisaw would feel sharp pain in his thigh from basic movements like sitting down when the injury was at its worst, but he was pain free when he travelled to Philadelphia for an MRI at The Vincera Institute in December.
“It was kind of a precautionary thing,” Darrisaw’s mother Kim Cherry said. “He wasn't having immediate pain, but since it was a recent problem area they wanted him to get it checked out."
The scan revealed a core muscle injury to his groin, a tear or group of small tears to the core muscles which can occur from the chest to mid-thigh.
“With the combine up in the air, I had nothing to lose,” Darrisaw said. “Teams would rather have you healthy. I knew it would be a weight off my shoulders if I got into surgery right here, right now."

And that’s what he did.
Darrisaw’s surgery was performed by The Vincera Institute’s founder Dr. William Meyers, who is a pioneer in the treatment of core muscle injuries. His list of past clients include Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster as well as numerous other high-profile professional athletes.

If you were a professional athlete, would you go to the team doc, or a renowned specialist?

JRs question isnt why he went to a specialist, its why did he wait until TC to go get the fix.

ah.  Yes, sorry, read that wrong.

My thought on that is that the minor procedure was probably cleaning up some scar tissue that wasn't breaking up like they thought it would.  That has been the story anyway, just some scar tissue causing discomfort.

I'm hoping the best for him and a quick recovery...  May have little return on his draft pick during his first year depending on how fast and completely he heals...

I was pretty pumped after some good free agency acquisitions and an apparently good draft. Really brightened my attitude after last years shit show. Darrisaw not getting much of a preseason, Davis buried on the depth chart, and Mond with a ways to go, takes a bit of the shine off.
Hopefully Darissaw gets healthy enough to play soon.
