Just subscribed to The Athletic. $1 a month for the first six months, then $7.99 per month.

Also traded in my 2018 F-150 XLT for a 2021 F-150 Lariat. OMG. Went from the 2.7 to the 3.5. Lots of bells and whistles. Love both purchases.

My son finally pulled the trigger and got a new car (had his for the last 10 years since high school, lol). 2019 Mazda CX-3 AWD. He really loves it, gets amazing reviews so we'll see.

Never been a Mustang fan. I think they've made some of the ugliest cars on the road the last 60 years. They're doing better now and those first models in the 60s were hot, but from roughly 1970 to 2010 ish, oh crap they were ugly.

How about this one from 1985...ish.

Just about everything Mazda does is spot on imo...Loved my little Miata back in the day. They're great little driving machines.

If I wasn't buying in the lux segment? It would be a Mazda or Honda for me.

My very first car was a 69 Mustang...

The Mach 1's, GT's back in the 60/70's were my favorites. Big Block V8's, Lumpy Cam's, cold start-up V8's? Doesnt get much better than that.

Govt neutered all cars starting in 72 and it took a long time for them to bounce-back. The mustang era you pictured doesnt resonate with me at all.

Sad, fools...

Two killed in huge blaze after driverless Tesla crashes into treeBy Jorge Fitz-Gibbon
Two men perished inside a Tesla Model S that  was zooming along a Texas roadway with no one behind the wheel — when the car crashed into a tree and sparked a massive fire.
The smash-up happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night in The Woodlands, a neighborhood in Houston, with the blaze continuing for four hours.
One of the men was found in the front passenger seat while the other was in the back seat, Harris County Constable Mark Herman told KHOU 11. The pricey automobile has an “autopilot” function, though it wasn’t immediately clear if it was in operation.
“With the physical evidence and the things of that nature on the scene, that night the position of the bodies the trajectory of the impact, they are 100% certain that no one was in the driver seat driving that vehicle at the time of impact. They are positive,” Herman said, according to the outlet.
“And again, the height from the back seat to the front seat, that would be almost impossible, but again our investigators are trained to handle collisions. Several of our folks are reconstructionist, but they feel very confident just with the positioning of the bodies after the impact that there was no one driving that vehicle.”
Officials only confirmed that one of the victims was 59 years old and the other was 69, the outlet reported.
Police said the fast-moving, fully electric Tesla was in a cul-de-sac when it failed to navigate a turn and sped into nearby woods — striking a tree, with the collision igniting the car’s batteries, reports said.

The 2019 vehicle owner’s brother-in-law said his relative had taken the car out with a spin with a friend when it lost control and crashed — with relatives watching in anguish as the flames burned for our outside the home, according to local TV network KPRC.
Firefighters pumped more than 30,000 gallons of water onto the flames before they were put out, USA Today said in a report.
When the fire was finally doused, authorities said they found the bodies inside.
Images of the aftermath show just a skeleton of the vehicle still left.
Tesla advises that motorists using its “advanced driver-assistance system” should still be prepared to take the wheel.
“Autopilot and full self-driving capability are intended for use with a fully attentive driver, who has their hands on the wheel and is prepared to take over at any moment,” Tesla says on its website.

^ Ugh. There is always someone. I'm just relieved they only did harm to themselves. I read in a different article that they called Tesla to help with information on how to put the fire out because the batteries kept reigniting.

Same. I was a Camaro / Corvette girl. My goal was to have a Camaro in my 20's (check) and a Corvette in my 30's (nope). I moved to Minnesota and it didn't take long for me to get rid of the Camaro and buy something that could handle the snow. That was the end of my sporty dreams.

that is one thing to consider for those buying these electric cars,  they are a new situation for those of us in the fire and rescue business.  lots of new wrinkles with these things that do not go with conventional fire and extrication training.   it will happen but for now firefighters view these things as something not to rush into when it comes to getting victims out.   there needs to be some universal battery cut out design and location that is common to all EVs that would make them much safer to cut into... of course I said the same thing about air bags and they never came up with that either.   kinda dangerous cutting up these more modern vehichles which is scary considering how much flimsier that they make them now with the crumple zones and stuff that make it more likely to require extrication than the old road boats.

I am looking at doing an addition and new garage and I would think a charging station would be a wise part of the plan but if they are all gonna be different then maybe not?

Lol, then the bastards change the plug every couple models.

That brings up another question.  If you buy a new EV does it come with a charger?

From all makers from Europe to Detroit to Korea.

The issue is going to be range, charge time, infrastructure protocols, availability of infrastructure outside of West Coast and wtf to do with all those batteries.

God bless Musk for the disruption he caused in the sleepy auto market. I luv me some SpaceX too. He's bat-s #it crazy and a genius all at once.

I seriously considered a Model Y, but it was like driving an iPad on wheels for me. My wife didnt like it at all and I really wanted to like this vehicle as Tesla is subsidizing their leases at crazy levels right now.

I'm glad its out there though and for the impact it will have on the industry as a whole. More choices will be good for the consumer as product quality will improve across the board and prices will eventually come down. Down to where it makes easy sense to choose BEV vs an ICE offering.

One has to ask how American infrastructure is going to respond to EV's.  Right now a decent hunk of fuel tax is used for infrastructure/roads.  How will Uncle Sam charge EV owners for the road maintenance needed?

In the BMW's I sell they come with a 110 standard. A 220 option is available for additional $$'s. This will dang near 1/2 the charging time but most be professionally installed.

Lots of new house construction have a garage hookup with 220-240 V for charging electric cars.

Its easy for an electrician to come into your garage and get a 220 outlet installed.

Yeah, if you're comfortable with electricity it shouldn't take much to wire one in.  I know I have my breaker boxes in my garage and could have one wired in by lunch time if I needed to.

Guess that brings up another question/comment lol:
Can we please put all the plugs on the same side of the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do these cars have a battery life gauge like a gas gauge and if so is there a little " > " to indicate which side of the car the plug in is located, like gas  vehicles have for the tank fill location?

Lots of air compressors take 220-240, see the vertical 80 gallons all over the place. Electric cars aren't going anywhere, they are only going to be more popular.
