All not well in Zimsu land?
FWIW...
Mike Zimmer is entering his seventh season with the Vikings. He’s coming off a 2019 in which he led his team to a 10-6 regular season record and a playoff victory against the Saints. It’s safe to say that if the Vikings want to repeat that success, they will have to do so with a more unknown roster. There’s also the added uncertainty that Zimmer is currently in the final year of his contract.
When it comes to a new deal, Chad Graff of The Athletic reported that “there’s growing tension” between Zimmer and the Vikings.
Graff also said this (H/T Bring Me The News):
“Zimmer has been irked by the fact that it’s now July and he remains without a new contract, according to multiple sources who requested anonymity to speak freely about a sensitive topic. He’s begun preparing for what seems like a growing possibility that he may coach this season in the final year of his contract.”Not only is Zimmer in the final year of his contract, but Vikings general manager Rick Spielman is as well. It will be interesting to see what the team does with those two in the future — whether that’s keeping them around or trying something new.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
They haven’t begun signing their draft class either, Hmmm...

Well, I've said it before but Rick Spielman deserves a damned medal. I'd sign him to a lifetime contract or something. He is truly the MVP of this organization and he's getting better, especially in the draft.
Zimmer? I can see both sides. You can look at his defensive stats and his record and say that his lack of an extension is an injustice, but....man, game prep...those games where his team comes out and looks like they had no clue what the other team was going to do....there were too many of those.
I think both will ultimately be extended though.
The head-scratcher to me is that the Wilfs seem to spare no expense when it comes to this team. I think Zim and Spielman have earned extensions. If you have reservations, fine. It's not like firing one or both part way into their next contract is going to be more than a blip to the Wilfs. The downside to having Zim coach on the last year of his contract after everything he has given to the organization, however, could be very high. I still expect this to get done and suspect the prospect of a lost season due to COVID may be a reason why things have not progressed.
I think Zimmer may be given a short extension....RS probably a longer one.

I think the organization, as progressive as it is, views Zimmer as an old school guy that has some limitations. I think ideally they'd love to turn it over to a younger, more modern thinking wunderkind. I mean Spielman has done a damn good job finding talent the last 5-6 years. But replacing Z aint easy when he keeps winning games.

This season already is a cluster with Covid, so any kind of stability that can be gotten is worth its weight in gold.@"purplefaithful" said: I think Zimmer may be given a short extension....RS probably a longer one. hard to hand millions in signing bonuses to kids that may not even see the practice field this year. I think once the league sees how some of these other leagues work they will fast track a lot of stuff. I have to think that terms have been agreed to, its just a matter of reaching a certain date or milestone towards a season and there will be a tidal wave of signings. No season means no football income for the Wilfs and they are already spending a shit load on their other football related investments like the stadium and the new winter park development.
Winter park???
Pull your head out son, it's Zygiland...

They have not signed their draftees, their star RB, or their GM either. I think Zimmer should just figure out this is a completely unprecedented year and the Wilfs are not certain there will be a season and aren't going to extend contracts until they know more about the 2020 season.
Ever think the uncertainty of the season to come plays a large hand. The owners are trying to figure out exactly how they can make this cash flow.

Truth in that...But they also could have gotten this done in December or there- about. When Covid was just a blip of pneumonia in Wuhan.

heres where your advanced age has me at a disadvantage, since I was brought up with the Vikings in the 70s I never thought of Max Winter as the reason behind Winter park as a kid growing up. to me the Vikings were winter, their history of being fierce warriors from northern Europe just made "winter park" sound like the perfect name for their home.I know the name Max Winter, but even now I dont think of that winter as being the name behind the home of the Vikings for all those years.

speaking of chops.. I did over 120# of pork chops this weekend for my nieces graduation, got me thinking we really need to have a get together soon... with or without football. masks are your choice, but its going to be damn hard to drink very much with a mask over my pie hole.
I mean how can it be with so many uncertainties. I wish him well. I hope he stays healthy.
