... Because GB got Love. That's why. That's the answer.
I'm over the moon with the Jefferson pick (can't believe PHI took Reagor!) and I like Gladney's attitude and game, but GB getting Love is a total buzzkill. I had hoped they were dense enough to think, for at least another year, that 2012 Rodgers is walking through that door.
I'm of the belief that AR is about league average at this point. He's had an amazing career, but his past few seasons he's looked unremarkable-- borderline washed. GB obviously sees it too, hence the trade up and the Love pick.
I hate to say it, but I can't help but feel that this is what the Vikings should have done. Maybe we still will take a QB with Hurts, Fromm, etc... but history says we won't. Having a guy waiting in the wings to either push the starter to play better or to push the starter off the team is a good strategy. It's not a strategy my favorite team employs, however. It's annoying.
Cost controlled starting QBs are the ultimate cheat code if you can find one. I wish the Vikings at least attempted to look.

I hear you. I am feeling 2005 again unfortunately. And we could have had him twice. I never expected the Vikings to take him though, they don't think that way. I hope it is not another 15 years of looking up at the pack. Wonder what the wilfs will think of this wiff in a few years? I pray the next regime is more modern offense orientated and QB friendly.

I'm glad they got him. They could have picked a good skill player (other than QB) still on the board. I think Hurts is way better than Love. When I was at the SEC championship game a couple years ago (GA vs. AL), and Tua went down to injury, the Alabama fans went absolutely nuts when Hurts came in the game. At that point they were behind, but it was like they just won the game. I dont think the TV picked up on it. I've seen him at QB camps as well as watched him in games and watched the combine. At the combine, Hurts looked like he had some of the best mechanics of all the QBs.

I thought you were going to say that you were not happy b/c we didnt address the Offensive line. . . .

Just because Love "projects" to be the next Mahomes and/or Jackson, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

your first reaction that Rodgers is pissed, is the most appropriate one.

The Packers are getting hammered for picking Love. Rodgers said he wants to play until he's 40.

26. Packers, QB Jordan Love, Utah StateGrade: D. Terrible move by the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers told me last summer he wants to play until he's 40. They needed a receiver. They needed defensive help. Sitting behind Rodgers will do Love well, but not going to do the Packers well. You're on the cusp of getting to a Super Bowl, get Rodgers some help.

Great pick. One game away from the Super Bowl. You haven't drafted a skill player on offense IN 15 YEARS.I

Fuck the packers

Well - you did dodge Tua going to Detroit OP. That has the potential to be as devastating if not more so.

I couldnt stop laughing when they traded up to take Love. He basically played one good team this past year (LSU) and threw 3 picks and 0 TD's. His accuracy isnt that great and Rodgers isn't done any time soon. Absolutely love the pick for GB as I never see him on the field for them unless Rodgers gets hurt. Such strong ownership and front office for GB

I like Love a lot, but think of it this way. The Packers did not improve last night.

The media doesn't share my belief that Rodgers is on a steep decline. So naturally many media members won't like the pick. It's an "easy" one to call out as bad.

What's interesting is that lot of people said "The Vikings made the playoffs! Look at Kirk's stats! You don't take a QB now!" Well GB got further than us, and they took one. Love could be the next Kizer, Hundley, etc or even worse. I now hope that he is. But I respect GB for looking. They haven't won the Super Bowl lately but I don't think the occasional QB pick or trade have cost them one either.

I'm off the ledge a bit this morning because like I said, Rick did make 2 good picks himself (IMO). I am happy and excited for tonight. But that Love pick will loom over the rest of this draft, for me.

Green Bay is constantly "looking" for QBs in early rounds. And what has it gotten them?  Rodgers is different because some projected him to be the overall #1.  But, yes, they still took a QB when they didn't need one.  And after 30 years of HOF quarterback play, they have 2 trophies to show for it.  Doesn't seem like a great plan to me.

Maybe this sets up for aGB trade of Rogers to play somewhere for a year, then he comes to the Vikings so he can stick it to GB! Or have we seen this movie before and it didn't have a good ending?

They have been far more relevant than the Vikings in that time period though. And have at least won a few super bowls.

If it makes you feel better, pattersaur...

My phone blew up last night...  My two Packer buddies HATE the pick.

One said "oh my fucking God"....  I asked if it was a good OMFG or bad OMFG...  he responded "BAD".  Then another said "We traded up for this dipshit????  Didn't he lead the FBS in interceptions last year???"

Just a flavor of what some of their more knowledgeable fans are saying last night and this morning.

Yeah 2 trophies sounds pretty damn good to me... It's just frustrating having the overall superior roster by far most seasons, but GB has the trophies. In my opinion that's largely because of their QB play. But like I said above, I'm feeling better after sleeping it off. Seeing GB pick the guy I wanted MIN to pick hurt. I threw a 12 hour pity party. And now I'm mostly over it. Screw the Pack!

I think for me to get excited again the team will need a new coach and GM. Hopefully an offensive and QB guru, and understands the value of the Lines, not 1st round picks at every db position.
