A surprise: the #Vikings have franchise tagged S Anthony Harris, either keeping him in Minnesota or allowing them to trade him. Maybe the top FA safety won’t be free.

The #Vikings surprisingly applied the franchise tag to safety Anthony Harris but acknowledged to teams that Harris could be had for a mid-to-late round draft pick, source said. A potential tag and trade candidate.

Oh, fuck that. Mid to late? Hell no. Gotta at least pull a third.

I am hearing that is not accurate now and that the Vikings are planning to keep Harris.  Initially it sounded like they were looking for a tag/trade for a mid-round pick, but other moves have changed their plans.

Gotta keep him, negotiate a new deal that pays something like $8MM this year. A 4th round pick or later for him is an absolute joke...only a crazy person would make that trade cough Bill O'Brien cough

This is where I am at.  Until we applied the tag we had no leverage,  but now the Vikings have control at 11 million on Harris the team has a little leverage,  the question is now Harris has to gamble on his health and abilities to get the leverage back IMO.  He can play out that 1 year will 11 million guaranteed,  or maybe he would be interested in a 3 year contract with 20 million guaranteed and actually end up with more upfront cash in the form of a signing bonus that would lower his actual number this year?... or buffalo still has their fourth rounder this year if he wants to play hardball.....

If we trade him, could we at least call the Texans?

They're out of picks... lol. I would call them on Will Fuller though. Injury prone but you could likely get him as a cheap deep threat.

#Browns are exploring a trade for #Vikings safety Anthony Harris, a source tells clevelanddotcom. But another source says it will take at least a 3rd, prob a 2nd, which is prob too rich

Vikings: We're not committed to him
League Offices: oh, well how about a 5th?
Vikings: Actually, his deal works out pretty good for us.
League Offices: Ok. You know it's tough, but we could do a 3rd.
Vikings: I don't know what we were thinking, he's a star. Neverm-
Browns: a 2nd, a 4th, a 4th next year, Beckham, our bulldog mascot and the entire cheerleader squad. That's our offer!

I'd prefer to keep Harris at this point. I'd get trading him if we were in full rebuild mode, but we're in this reloading mode at the moment, so I'd rather not sell off good players for more day 3 picks at this point.

Agree, except I might balk on that if we're talking another 1st rounder.

Leverage is funky in this scenario - float out you want a 5th and see who calls. Get them to admit they value your guy when they offer a 3. Get that 3 down to a 2. Let Harris get some motion going on a long term extension there... float out you suddenly know better and can't make that deal. Does the certainty of a long term extension with Harris up the ante to a 1st to secure the value of locking up a player of his calibur long term? ... i dunno....

This could be absolutely nothing, but Jarvis Landry might be in play...

I get moving him if someone offers something crazy and the difficulty of finding good safeties could be enough to start a bidding war. The main case for moving him would be getting a 3rd or higher, using that pick to draft a cheaper alternative at safety and clear $11 million in cap room and maybe use that on a corner. Though then we are left with Sendejo at safety and no guarantee that the player we draft to replace Harris will be any good. Regardless of what happens here, we are in for a very different roster next year and I'm curious to see if they can really reload on the fly.

Wouldn't that piss off other NFL GM's and burn bridges?

I was surprised at the Hooper signing when they have a high pick in NJOKU sitting there as well. Maybe the Vikings can nab him for a 6th?

Yup, on Twitter. I think it's pure speculation. Prior talk of Landry being available + current talk of the Browns interest in Harris = Harris for Landry.

If I see it from a credible source, I'll post more.

Glad to see you, PG. :)

I think the Browns keep him as Stefanski will want to run a lot of two TE sets.

The #Bills have done some work on their own players, agreeing to terms on a 2-year extension with S Jordan Poyer on a 2-year deal worth $20.5M, source said. One of the game’s most underrated players cashes in.

Hey Barr!  Have you heard if the Vikings have reached out to any of the free agents outside of the team?

Not a peep. I have to think it's going to be all about retaining their own guys.

They were in on Connor McGovern until he signed with the Jets. They're also in on Joe Haeg but I don't know to what degree.
