Wait a minute, bud. He doesn't have even remotely the same number of snaps for his age that most guys that are that good have. Late bloomer that overcame injury concerns and played mostly on Special Teams and in reserve until the last year and a half.

Context matters. Harris simply doesn't have the wear and tear on him that his age would typically suggest. Saying he's on the backside of his career really isn't taking that into account, IMO.

i understand that,  but age is age and that high level of athleticism starts to drop around 30,  players like lineman and QBs that dont play with as much athleticism can get by longer,  but even reserve players their whole careers see their edge dulled by age.  Harris may not have the nagging aches and pains of playing full time in the NFL for the last 5 years or so,  but he has played the game his whole life and that adds up as well.   I am just saying that Harris is likely peaked and a slight drop off in the next couple years is to be expected,  so what is that guy worth in terms of a draft pick if you have to still pony up top of the market money?

The one year deal on the tag is the issue. If they want to keep Harris long-term they will still need to pony up market rate which would have topped $13M per season. They don't have that right now. So although trading him would net you a pick and open up a hole, its better than simply allowing him to walk and needing to find a replacement as well.

At least a 3rd if not more. Safeties are one of the rare skill positions that tend to age well.

Is there any chance on God's green earth... that the team would replace Smith... with Sendejo?  Smith can play in the box... and cover.  Sendejo can play in the box... and...?  Physically, Sendejo might be able to do *some* of the things that Smith could do.  But could the team consider him a cheap replacement for Smith?  With Ant back, maybe they feel like a second star at safety is a luxury they can't afford?

With there being a decent chance we could lose both Waynes and Alexander, it could make sense to keep Harris to help cover for what will likely be a questionable group of corners. We only have Hughes and Hill right now. Maybe Boyd for depth, but the secondary needed to retain some talent. Has there been any word on Hughes neck injury?

Update. Of course after I say this they'll change course, but sounds like the Vikings intend to keep Ant and will not trade him.

I am hearing that is not accurate now and that the Vikings are planning to keep Harris.  Initially it sounded like they were looking for a tag/trade for a mid-round pick, but other moves have changed their plans.
