For some reason I think Daniel Jones would flourish in KOC's offense. Also he would not be a one year rental but who knows? Every time I think I know, I find out I don't. Still think Cousins could come in on a Tuesday, practice and game planning sessions, and be extremely effective the following Sunday.

Out of all the names being thrown against the wall by the media, Kirko is the only one (imo) that would even remotely make sense for this year. I'm not sure how steeped in the playbook Jones actually got last year?
But I'll stick to my pov and that is in season QB trades rarely happen and only under the most dire of circumstances (ala injury.)
I suppose with Teasley being a complete unknown at GM, anything could still happen. But they better be careful not to gut their chances at figuring out a starting QB AND signing some pretty big names on the D side who are up next year.
Welcome to MN Mr Teasley.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Trading for Daniel Jones would be a fairly risk-free move by the Vikings in an attempt to upgrade their QB room. The downside is you’d be relying on 2026 Daniel Jones to rescue the offense and save your Super Bowl aspirations.

Long rambling re QB and the trade deadline

It's interesting how hard some national insider/media people (eg Schefter) are pushing the "watch the QB room in Minnesota" when it comes to the trade deadline. The obvious names everyone brings up are Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones, but do either of them really move the needle over someone like Carson Wentz?
I think Kirk would, but at the same time I don't think LV has any reason to trade him for some irrelevant day 3 pick. So you have to ask yourself if the Vikings would trade a day 2 pick for a 38 yo Kirk and I just can't see any way MN ownership would sign off on that. And then you have Daniel Jones; what does he really offer you that Carson Wentz doesn't?
All this to say... I think the one name to actually keep an eye on here is, surprisingly, Justin Herbert. If you asked me prior to this season, I would have said 0% chance 1000/1000 times. But just the fact that the Chargers are 0-7, the fact that Justin Herbert is playing horrific this season, the fact that MN has previously showed interest in Herbert, and the fact that the Vikings have been a QB away for what seems like the past 2 seasons (with having a top 3 ovr defenses and having all these weapons on offense).
Plus the whole dilemma with JJ McCarthy and them ultimately deciding that they don't want to wait and develop him, I think, further pushes this potential trade concept of acquiring a vet name like Justin Herbert. Not to mention the fact that O'Connell won a Super Bowl with the Rams as OC after they did something similar and traded for Matthew Stafford.
All I'm really saying here is that it would take a ton of converging tailwinds all happening at the same time for a player like that to even get traded, but I think all those tailwinds are actually happening right now. In 1000 universes, Herb doesn't get traded in 999 of them... but we might live in the 1/1000 where he does.

Daniel Jones waiving his $10.5M injury guarantee would certainly lower the risk for any acquiring team, driving the asking price up for Indianapolis

Report: Colts are in trade talks regarding QB Daniel Jones
By Mike Florio
Published November 7, 2026 09:54 AM
The Indianapolis fire sale could indeed extend to the man who was supposed to become a franchise quarterback there.
According to ESPNFL, the Colts have engaged in trade talks this week regarding Daniel Jones, speaking to “multiple teams.”
The precise language of the report identifies only one team as actually talking to the Colts. From the article, the Ravens “were one team to check in on Jones.” The Ravens ultimately struck a deal with the Cardinals for quarterback Jacoby Brissett, whose plunge from No. 1 to No. 3 on the depth chart made it clear to the rest of the league that he was available.
The only other team mentioned by name is the Vikings, and the report points only to "[s]peculation” involving Minnesota. (We’ve been “speculating” about it since the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s loss by the Vikings in Detroit.)
Past ESPNFL reporting on a potential trade for running back Jonathan Taylor ultimately listed five teams as talking to the Colts (Giants, Seahawks, Broncos, Packers, Vikings). The fact that other teams weren’t mentioned as to Jones suggests that, frankly, there may not be other teams.
Really, which current contender would want him? The Vikings are the only potential playoff team that checks the box as possibly needing a starter right now. And only the Vikings and Giants are contenders with which Jones has direct experience. (The Giants wouldn’t want a Jones reunion, and Jones surely wouldn’t want it, either.)
That could change this weekend, obviously. One injury to a starter could alter the dynamics, spurring another contender to pick up the phone and make a push for Jones. The most memorable example of that came 15 years ago, when a broken collarbone to Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell prompted a quick deal for Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, who had decided he didn’t want to play for the team that had drafted him — and who had yet to report.
Three years ago, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins popped an Achilles tendon two days before the deadline, forcing the Vikings to scramble at the deadline to do a deal with the Cardinals for quarterback Josh Dobbs.
Absent a multi-week injury to a starting quarterback on a contender that doesn’t believe its backup can hold down the fort, the Vikings may be the only team that wants Jones at the deadline.
The preferences of Daniel Jones become a factor, too. If (as we firmly believe) he’s not happy that the Colts folded the tents by trading guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner after a 2-5 start that included an overtime loss to the Chiefs and a toe-to-toe battle with the then-unbeaten Vikings, Jones would have a clear interest in hopping to a contender.
The Vikings wanted to keep Jones after the 2024 season. He opted to sign with the Colts in part because he saw a more realistic path to winning the job over 2023 first-rounder Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis than 2024 first-rounder J.J. McCarthy in Minneapolis. If he’s told that a return to Minnesota would include being installed immediately as QB1, he’d surely prefer that to a lost season with the Colts.
Andd Jones has power over this process. Beyond the basic reality that no team wants a starting quarterback who doesn’t want to play for it, the 2027 roster bonus and base salary that become fully guaranteed in March ($10.51 million) are currently guaranteed for injury. The ESPNFL article mentions that Jones could waive the injury guarantee in order to expedite a deal.
The reverse of that (Jones refusing to waive the injury guarantee) means that Jones could block a trade, if avoiding a potential eight-figure guarantee for 2027 is a dealbreaker for his prospective employer.
Our guess? Right now, only the Vikings currently have interest in Jones. And a trade for Jones becomes a very viable possibility if the Vikings lose to the Bills on Monday with Carson Wentz playing quarterback.
Given the possibility that another team will emerge as a competitor to get Jones, it’s also possible that the Vikings have already decided to trade for Jones after Monday night’s game — win or lose — and that the two teams have agreed to keep it under wraps until Week 9 ends.
Either way, if the oft-injured Jones plays on Sunday against the Cowboys and gets injured, that would kill any chance to trade him. That makes it important to monitor Sunday’s game carefully. If the Colts apply a quick hook to Jones, it could mean that he's already gone.

I have been writing about this very thing because I also believe the #Vikings will wait to see how Carson Wentz performs and are doing their due diligence to have possible trade options ready.

Not only have the Indianapolis Colts engaged in trade discussions regarding running back Jonathan Taylor, they have also done the same regarding quarterback Daniel Jones, league sources told NFL Network and ESPN.
The Colts have received calls from multiple teams inquiring about trading for Jones, who is slated to start Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis has been willing to listen to any offers, according to league sources.
The Baltimore Ravens were one team to check in on Jones before they opted to trade for former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett. But the Ravens are hardly the only team to call the Colts about him, according to league sources.
Speculation has also included the Minnesota Vikings, a team Jones has history with and a team with a Super Bowl-caliber defense that shouldn't be ruled out.
The Colts have preferred to wait until this week to ponder any potential trade for Jones, league sources said, if they even decide to move him at all.
Similar to several players on their roster, Indianapolis is said to be open to having conversations about Jones. But the Colts are not interested in moving players unless they believe the offers are fair.
Indianapolis is expected to take calls on Jones through Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline because it is interested in acquiring as much draft capital as possible in addition to reducing financial risks.
Jones has a $10.51 million injury guarantee for the 2027 season that becomes fully guaranteed March 15 should he remain on the Colts' roster. If the Colts (2-6) are eliminated from playoff contention, Indianapolis might not want to expose Jones to any injury and risk that $10.51 million guarantee, and a benching could come into play.
It's also possible that if Jones wanted to play for another franchise, he could waive the injury guarantee on the $10.51 million, according to sources.
Before his injury guarantee even becomes more of an issue than it already is, the Colts could opt to trade Jones, whom they signed to a two-year, $88 million contract that included a $44 million signing bonus in March.
Jones received a vote of confidence this week from Colts coach Shane Steichen, who said that "Daniel gives us the best chance to win right now." But Steichen's use of the phrase "right now" opened the door to what happens in the future -- and other teams have taken notice.
With Jones potentially available, any team with a quarterback question or injury could call the Colts. It also is possible another team sustains a quarterback injury this weekend, as the Ravens did last weekend when they lost Lamar Jackson and Tyler "Snoop" Huntley to injuries that landed both quarterbacks on injured reserve.

Anyone think the Colts are just looking to get out from under Jones contract, to clear the books for the QB they are going to draft next year?
I have reservations about Jones. Not sure he is a good enough QB to be worth the risk. He could set the Vikings back another couple years if he fails in this system. I don't want to see them bring in another Colts player who has only had a few good games and cost a fortune!
Probably won't be able to get a long term solution so a rental could be a good move. Problem being, anyone needing a QB right now is going to have to over pay.
Interesting note here about the #Vikings not proceeding as if they will add a QB ahead of Tuesdays trade deadline: https://t.co/U4rFuCJuyv

I just think, as some others, a QB is not something the Vikings are interested in doing mid-season. Off-season? Definitely. Does Murray's injury change that thinking? Maybe a bit, but I don't they'll get into a bidding war for Danny Dimes and make a move Tuesday.
Whether you agree or not, I think they believe they can play decently on offense with Carson Wentz and still have some belief that Murray can play better down the road upon a return. Is that thought misguided? I guess we'll see. But the media certainly doesn't have a clue despite all of these unsubstantiated rumors that have been flying around for weeks on Taylor, a QB, etc. Going to be 'very aggressive' in the trade market, they said. 🙄
I guess its not end of business on Tuesday yet, so things could happen.....but IMO I don't see it.
Ian “I often hear things I cannot report” Schefter said to watch for a QB in Minnesota. When he drops hints, I tend to listen. It also makes some sense that the Vikings could get back on the JT train by ordering the combo meal. But a 1st round draft pick? Oh man, just don't.
I like the Cousins idea, but not for a 2nd round draft pick, as many have suggested. If we’re down to that, just stick with Murray, then grab Cousins when he’s a free agent in March.

I wouldn’t give up on the idea of Kirko. Yeah, the Raiders are 4-4, but they probably get beat this week by the 49ers. KC and Denver both have easy games this week, so the Raiders likely emerge this weekend with only a desperate hope to make the playoffs. You’ve given Mendoza more than half a season to learn on the bench — time to get some of those rookie mistakes out this year.
