Dante Scarnechia or whatever the hell his last name is has a TON to do with how the Pats can be so good without spending a lot on their O-Line.
Look, Tony passing sucked. Period. But the fact that it happened didn't make him a great O-Line Coach. Or maybe a better way to say it is that he wasn't the right coach scheme-wise as he typically preffered power over athleticism (Willie Beavers).
Kubes and Dennison have a substantial track record. And that wasn't always with high draft picks or expensive FAs.
Part of the improvement in 2019 will come from existing players getting better. And part of the offseason plan so far probably has something to do with what the new coaches think about guys like Collins, Edison, Isadora and what they think Rick can get them in the Draft.
I also think too many people thought this was a good FA pool. It's not. There's no Whitworth or Norwell or Zeitler. Saffold was the best guy on the market and he's not young.
A team was anonymously quoted as saying this was literally the worst FA Pool combined with the most number of teams with tons of cap space that they'd ever seen. It's true.
Wanna know how I know? A former UDFA with like 17 total starts who's last 2 seasons ended due to injuries just got twice what he should have...to play a position he hasn't started at since 2016! If you haven't guessed it, his name is Nick Easton.
If you're honest with yourselves, really honest, how would you react to Rick giving that kind of money to someone with that same bio coming from another team?
I'm going to trust that Gary & Rick D. have been speaking at length with Kevin, Mike and Rick S. and that what's transpired to date isn't some massive failure by the team to lose a good player just to free up cap space to overpay some average to crappy guy that doesn't fit their vision.
Remember, Dante S. came out of retirement to fix the Pats O-Line and he did it without making wholesale changes to the personnel.
I'm not saying Kubiak and Dennison are as good as he has been. But they are inarguably better than anything we've seen in Minnesota since Tice. And arguably better than Mike was.
So let's stay a few feet back from the cliff's edge. Well, at least until Zimmer and Spielman go Defense with the first 4 picks, anyway
