*cough* extensions for....whom. (slinks back to the nerdery).

The only one who might be a "core player" is Trae Waynes... the Vikings have the majority of their core guys locked up at the moment. I could see the team extending Weatherly and Alexander since DE and nickel CB are important spots and both of these guys showed well this season. I like Morgan and what he brings to the table, but I don't know that the Vikings will be in a rush to extend a blocking TE...
Waynes might be the only one we extend this offseason, but a lot of that will depend on our cap situation, who restructures, and who gets cut.
For me it's not that Waynes isn't talented. It's that he's going to be expensive. And for a team with a highly paid Rhodes, an improving slot corner in Alexander, and a two pretty good looking outside corners in Hill and Hughes, it may not make economic sense. I think the Vikings might try to get something for Waynes before they lose him in free agency the following year.
I do think Iloka stays on the cheap for a chance to compete with Harris and Kearse. Its good money for a guy who might not demand a lot of FA attention. Harris is a stud and I believe will be a sneaky top safety in 2019. His maturation in the system is a perfect example of talent paired with the right coaching. He was a UDFA with talent and a good head but bad injury history. Look at him now, from the Thursday night game in zona back in 15 getting trucked by Fitz to now jacking up receivers.
Morgan staying is a must, our run blocking is signifcantly better with him on the field. Plus i dont think i ever remember him dropping a ball. Hes a great checkdown with athleticism.
Honestly, I would rather keep Waynes for the long term and move Rhodes after 2019 meaning you would have one expensive corner in 2020, Mac with a good contract, Hughes and Hill still on rookie deals.

Oh for sure... I wasn't advocating extending Waynes. Jor-El asked the question who might get extended a year early and I just stated that Waynes seems like the only one that might be considered. Typically, Spielman has been aggressive locking up our core players before they play out their final year. That's why I don't think Weatherly or Alexander will be priorities, but Waynes could be since he is the closest to a "core player". Obviously, the Vikings will have to decide if they want to pay 2 top CBs a bunch of money with cheap talented youngsters like Hughes and Hill waiting in the wings...
Hill is unproven and only slightly tested, Hughes is a big question mark as well being that we only saw him for a small part of his rookie year. I think you have to resign MA as he is your starting nickle with no sure one to replace him, and Waynes is the only proven outside corner opposite of Rhodes. I think you try and keep Waynes and look to move him or Rhodes after this year if Hill and or Hughes show up and look the part. passing league, we cant get by on minimal number of defensive backs and with our "window" being what it is, imo its not the time to skimp on CB.

True about Waynes, but I don't think he's the only extension we see this offseason - he is probably the only one that would be in the category of some recent Bigdeals like Diggs/Kendricks/Hunter (unless they do Barr or Richardson). But I expect some of Weatherly/Alexander/Morgan to get deals along the lines of what the Vikings gave Andrew Sendejo - decent initial money but option for the team to get out if the player backslides/plateaus.

I think njvike should get another year here, he’s had a tremendous run lately... ![[Image: qn2dmo92pokn.jpeg]](https://vikefans.com/vfforums/uploads/editor/1a/qn2dmo92pokn.jpeg) ![[Image: sitmdt2iqy7c.gif]](https://vikefans.com/vfforums/uploads/editor/mt/sitmdt2iqy7c.gif)
Hey @Kentis, you sure about that? B)
NJ, dude you really need some help, seriously.
All I see is a heavy purple line whenever that spoonbill posts anyway, (ignore feature works well!), besides, he doesn’t even know who he’s talking to apparently, he’s got his insults mixed up!
Trade Rhodes and offload the huge salary he is getting slow. Extend Waynes and Alexander. then let Barr walk and either renegotiate Griffins contract or trade/cut him. Keep Morgan and I would extend Richardson as well.

This...
With Hughes, Mac/Alex and even Hill the Vikings have enough Corner depth and promising players to trade Waynes for some OL talent.
Makes perfect sense to me - which is why it won't happen.

It does make perfect sense. I don't know if it will happen or not, but the reason it will be difficult is that I think every team in the NFL is struggling to find O-lineman right now. It will be difficult to find a team willing to part with a Waynes-like talent on their line.
