Love 2017 Case, but he truly caught lightning in a bottle, played with the #1 defense. Never had to really go to to toe in any shootouts and put up big points. Nice guy, but Cousins is a clear upgrade.
It's only 4 games into the season.
Last year at this point MN scored 19.75 points per game.
This year 22.5 points per game.
That extra field goal per game is not that clear yet.
I don't care about what your stats say. Cousins is making some throws that case cant or wont, he is scoring TDs in the redzone. Cousins is balling at a Top 5 level, Case is not.
Exactly... because 19 points is likely two touchdowns and a couple field goals. Over 21 points has been three touchdowns and then a little extra. It's definitely a solid improvement... especially considering the Vikings current kicking woes.
Case lost his horseshoe and has 7 picks so far this year. That's got him on a 20+ int path for 2018. I like him, like what he did for us and I'm happy he got paid but it was a perfect convergence of a career backup falling into a starting role which he never would have earned, getting hot and having a lot of luck on numerous plays, and converting that into a nice payday. It's only natural he'd come back down to earth this year. From what I've seen of Cousins in purple the team made the right call.

He was our version of Ryan Fitzpatrick... journeyman backup that can catch lightning in a bottle for a couple games or sometimes an entire season (see year with New York Jets where they went 10-6).
Love Case... great competitor and teammate, but he's not a starting QB.
Keenums enduring MN legacy will always be this...

Karma says not to laugh, I'm sure, but we Viking fans have been through the heartbreaks way more often. Those Saint fan vids are so awesome! B)
I'm sure NO can hardly wait to pay the Vikes another visit in a couple weeks.

I am fairly certain Sendejo has it marked on his calendar as well. cheap fuckers need to be brought back to earth. Zims boys better be ready to take a few 15 yarders that game because you know damn well that the aints players will be coached up to do exactly that in an effort to gain an advantage through injury.

Vikings are at 50% red zone TDs (down from 55.56% last year).
Broncos are at 46.67% red zone TDs (up from 39.58% last year).
Yesterday, Keenum throws for 377 yards, 2 TDs and a turnover, the Broncos offense scored 16 points and it's bad. Cousins throws for 301 yards, 1 TD and a turnover and the Vikings offense scores 16 points and it's amazing.
I didn't even want Keenum, but I don't get the criteria that it's being used here.
I'd be very curious to know how many of those redzone TDs from last year were from rushing TD's vs this year?
But the eyeball test tells me there are throws and plays that Kirk makes that Case couldn't. Case probably a little better at extending plays but Cousins is throwing into some tight windows under pressure that I can't imagine Case making.

there is no viable arguement to be made that says Cousins isnt an upgrade talent wise over Keenum... hell even from a mobility standpoint Kirk has surprised me several times with his ability to get out of dodge when he needs to (Case is still more mobile, but not as big of a loss there as I had anticipated) ... but definitely yes, the arm talent increase alone is a hands down winner in terms of if it was an upgrade. The only arguement that could be made is would the team have been better off paying Case 15-20 million and using that extra money to improve the OL? (not that there was much available but the arguement IMO could be made)
:# There are still people that think Case should be the QB??

But the eyeball test tells me there are throws and plays that Kirk makes that Case couldn't. Case probably a little better at extending plays but Cousins is throwing into some tight windows under pressure that I can't imagine Case making. It's easy for this year. There are zero rushing TDs, not a single one. Using Cook and Murray, there have been only 5 rushing attempts in the red zone. Cousins has 23 pass attempts plus a sack, so 24 passing plays to 5 rushing plays (this is all from ESPN split stats).
My question would be, does it matter? Does a rushing TD from the 5 yard line diminish the rest of the drive?
Here's what I know, the Viking offense this year is bad. The Vikings have scored a total of 113 points, but 14 of those are defensive scores (coincidentally, the only two games the Vikings have won have a defensive TD. DAMN THAT HORRIBLE DEFENSE). Even including the defensive scores (which account for 12.4% of all Viking scores), the Vikings are 21st in points per game. 18 teams have non-offense TDs so far this year, with the Vikings tied for second at 2. Take away the defensive TDs and the Vikings offense falls further down the list. Bottom 3rd in points per play and points per drive... Bad offense. But hey, fantasy stats.
Here's something I don't get, there's a bash Keenum post and now a bash Alex Smith post, where's the bash Bradford post? He was arguably the worst QB in the NFL this year. Not a peep. The Cardinals are dramatically better starting a rookie QB and nothing. The same people that were gushing about the Vikings 8-8 season under Bradford are now onto Cousins. The offense is bad, but PASSING YARDZ and PASSING TDZ.
