I am looking forward to Oneill.   The guy could be a weapon with the way he catches the ball.  RT reporting as eligible?
I wonder how much Zimmer will focus on rotation and keeping players fresh.  The additional depth will make a difference for the postseason.
Ideally, O'Neill is the guy that replaces Reiff in 2020 and becomes his primary backup before then. He's got LT potential.
he is such a natural pass catcher and a mismatch nightmare!  Come on u got to be wanting to see him as a red zone target.  It would be like watching The Fridge rumble in from the two.
ehh,   ONeill has a long ways to go to every make me think of the Fridge... ONeill has an athletic frame and looks the part... the Perry was just a blob.

I dont know that we will fool many people by using a former college TE, and 4th OT, as a tackle eligible and then sneaking him into a pass route.  Any DC that doesnt make their redzone unit aware of that potential situation against the Vikes should be working on his resume.

You know what would fool any team in that red zone scenario? Make O'Neill tackle eligible and then throw the damn ball to Treadwell.
might even fool Treadwell.

I can see it already... KC calls the play in the huddle... everybody goes silent and Quon looks at the sideline... then at the ref.... and puts up the TO hand signal and starts walking towards the sideline.... gets to Flipper and says "I dont think capn Kirks helmet is working"

Interesting that Remmers is no longer switching between guard and tackle. He is now the right guard and Hill is the right tackle. I think this makes a LOT more sense and you could pretty much tell by how they drafted that this was the direction they wanted to go in.
Yea it sure looks like were were leaning strongly to get Remmers at Guard and then draft a RT.  O'Neill was only the 3rd Tackle drafted after McGlinchey (9) and Kolton Miller (15).  I was in the Wynn camp who is a tweener G/OT but the Patriots grabbed him well before us and we didn't have the ammo to move up anyway.  The Hughes pick now makes even more sense (I predicted we take a CB anyway) knowing that we weren't looking at Guards like Hernandez.

Let's hope the either Hill or O'Neill step up for us at RT.  Key position to watch throughout preseason.
Watch the tape on Hill for the last two games of the season and tell me you feel comfortable with him as our starting right tackle? He was terrible. Can he improve with a full offseason and build some continuity with the rest of the line, sure, but I have seen nothing from him to indicate he can handle the speed and power of the elite pass rushers that we will face this year with a very difficult schedule. If he is the best we can do at RT, I have major concerns about our line.
OL is the unit the vikings have not been able to evaluate in the whole Rick era. i will believe it when it works.

I read though the thread and agree with many here. Either Hill or O'Neill HAVE to step up to the job. I put my faith in Hill 1st...and that's not a comforting feeling. However as others have said. I'm most interested in Threadwell finally doing something/anything. Aside from being a great gunner and downfield blocker. Don't think that's what the team had in mind when they used a 1st on him. I'm tired of 1st or 2nd round WR picks being busts on this team. Has there been one since Moss that earned a 2nd contract? I can't think of him if there was. Now is the time for Treadwell to shine or he joins the ranks of gone after rookie deal ends. Maybe someone will trade a 1st for him. Get Seattle on the line...lol.

Just a top of mind - Harry and Rhodes - 1st round picks on second contracts and prob Barr to follow.  Shariff was given a 5th year but the injury and he was done otherwise second contract like Teddy would have been with health - both 1st rounders.  Waynes may warrant a second contract shortly after his 5th year option.

Plus IMO Diggs in the 5th makes up for the Treadwell miss to date - who cares where they were drafted Diggs plays like a 1st rounder.

With regards to the OLine, I think there's two factors at play that I don't think are getting enough attention.    The first is, if you have one hole on the OLine, would you rather it be on the edge or the middle.  On the edge you're going against the more premier pass rushers.  Inside you're letting in a more direct route to the QB if you screw up and you're affecting two linemates with your problems.  The second is are you better off letting Remmers focus on one spot or have him not know his position all off-season and trying to focus on both spots.  I think you just let him focus on RG and if need be he could transition back to RT without much issue.  You get more snaps for Hill and O'Neill.  You get 4 solid guys across the line, and only have one area of weakness.

This is possible, if you're replacing for cost, but I think the differences for LT's and RT's are fastly disappearing.  There's just as many elite pass rushers on the right side of the offense as the left.  The days of a big clunky RT and a lankier, more agile LT are gone.  You need agile pass protectors on both sides, and you don't need the big run blocking RT.  I think if we're still rolling with Reiff in 2020, I'd probably keep him at LT and keep O'Neill at RT, just to minimize switching them around.

I think we still need to be targeting OL in the first 3 rounds next year.  We need to be ready to replace at least 1 tackle and 1 G in the next 2 years.  Maybe ONeill is the tackle...maybe not,  but we need to keep investing in the OL with decent draft currency.

Oops no misunderstanding. I was asking when the last WR high draft choice got a 2nd deal. Not Troy Williamson, Rice? Not Patterson, Harvin we traded and made out. I was making that reference. I care when we waste 1st round picks. It's nice if you can find good players in the later rounds. Maybe we could have used Treadwell's pick for a olineman. Just saying. For all the real good he's done us.

The LT position still covers the QBs blindside for all right handed QBs, that's why the value is much higher than RT. And always will be until a generation of lefties show up. They can't see it coming.
