First of all, the Cards don't have the cap space to even make that offer. Second of all, the contract is for LESS than $30 million. Like it or not, that is going to be the new going rate for staring QBs in the league. By the time that contract would be up (if it was real), I'm guessing that Cousins would be in the bottom half of the league (in terms of salary). I don't understand why all the angst, when the "acceptable" salary was $27 (just $2 million a year difference).
I'm not saying we should pay that much... but it's not like the he's asking for $35 million per year...

It's the Vikings money, i figure if they match that then they really want him and I will trust our front office.

Contract numbers are always fluff beyond the guaranteed amount.
The Vikings could easily afford this ... 5 yr 150 mil deal with a 50 mil signing bonus, 79 over 2 years, and 95 over 3 years Year | Base Salary | Signing | Roster | Workout | Cap Hit | Dead Cap | Cap Savings 2018 | $14,000,000 | $10,000,000 | | $100,000 | $24,100,000 2019 | $15,000,000 | $10,000,000 | | $100,000 | $25,100,000 2020 | $16,000,000 | $10,000,000 | | $100,000 | $26,100,000 | $30,000,000 | ($3,900,000) 2021 | $27,000,000 | $10,000,000 | | $100,000 | $37,100,000 | $20,000,000 | $17,100,000 2022 | $28,000,000 | $10,000,000 | | $100,000 | $38,100,000 | $10,000,000 | $28,100,000 Total | $100,000,000 | $50,000,000 | $0 | $500,000 | $150,500,000 | $30,100,000 The cap hits of 23, 25, & 26 in the first 3 years allows them to do what ever they want. If he is playing really well after 3 years they can extend his deal a couple of years or more. If not they eat 20 mil but save 17 mil in cap space. It really is not a big deal but it is not how Brez would likely want to structure a deal either. I doubt the Vikings would make this kind of offer. I think they should probably come with a 5 yr 140 mil deal. Take it or leave it. It seems to me that a lot of fans want to get the Blue Light Special at the QB spot. Can't pay too much because the player could be a bust or not worth it. But at other positions it is OK. All these other teams HAVE to offer a ginormous amount because they suck. I mean these guys need a lot of other piece to either draft (those always work out) or sign as free agents. The Vikings do not need to do that. They are set pretty much.

I would take 3 years of 28 mil and offer it to Brees. NO cant pay him close to his value. He'll be here our entire SB window and have time to train up Sloter.
