Its not really all that insane. The 49ers typically load their contracts with game-day roster bonuses. That'd inflate the deal by $1.5M+ per season. But as always, the next good QB to get paid will be the market leader.
the Market sets these Salaries.  it always amazes me the push back I see from fans who act like it is thier money.  Reiff is a prime example,  the wailing and gnashing of teeth was weird because Reiff got market value fom the Vikings.  Now Reiff looks like a genius signing especially since Kalil got similar money and has had no where near the season Reiff has had.
So the wailing and gnashing was okay in Carolina?

Not really surprised at the surprise when the market is absolutely crazy.

Its all about the value you end up with. There is always going to be a $50M contract that handicaps the cap and a $60M contract that becomes a value. Its the art of free agency high risk/high reward. Anytime you're dishing out massive contracts there are going to be repercussions. The risk is mitigated when you re-sign you own players since you at least have a baseline understanding of how they operate and interact in the locker room. But ultimately there is a factor of luck involved. Players staying healthy, fitting in, etc..

I'm starting to think the Viking's should go all in on Cousins.

This assumption is a runaway train. The contract structure is what will determine if the Vikings or any team would be able to keep their young players. At $30M per year there are ways the Vikings can keep everyone with market value contracts.
