The 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis.

Jimmy G has started less than 10 games in the NFL and now has two Super Bowl rings and the biggest contract in NFL history. A true inspiration to those that let their partners do all of the work on group projects.

Wow, 27 mil a year.  Ok, I guess he's now the most valuable QB in the league?  I wonder how much Brees, Cousins, and Case want?  I would imagine this could drive up the price for all QBs, including Sam and Teddy.

Wonder what the Guaranteed $$ are - and signing bonus.

Nice $$ for a guy who's only played 10 games. Will have an interesting ripple effect on the other QB's currently unsigned - Cousins must be sending Jimmy G a bouquet for Valentines day with a big Thank You!

That's insane.  I guess we'll have to see the actual details of the contract to see just how insane it actually is though.

this is why the longer you wait to lock up your guy is futile.  the Salaries NEVER go down for a franchise QB.  In three years this will be looked at as a very reasonable deal if Jimmy lives up to the hype.

Its not really all that insane. The 49ers typically load their contracts with game-day roster bonuses. That'd inflate the deal by $1.5M+ per season. But as always, the next good QB to get paid will be the market leader.

the Market sets these Salaries.  it always amazes me the push back I see from fans who act like it is thier money.  Reiff is a prime example,  the wailing and gnashing of teeth was weird because Reiff got market value fom the Vikings.  Now Reiff looks like a genius signing especially since Kalil got similar money and has had no where near the season Reiff has had.
