Update: John DeFilipo Interview Must Wait?
#11
Well, wouldn't it seem that this is the direction we're going then? Meanwhile some or all of the other 4 guys we already interviewed could potentially move on (don't know the likelihood, but just saying). If DeFilipo is interested then the interview is going to happen. So unless I'm interpreting this wrong, both parties seem interested and will wait out that 10 days, right Geoff?

MINNEAPOLIS — When John DeFilippo became the Jets’ assistant quarterbacks coach in 2009, it took him a few days to come to grips with where his career was.
For the previous two seasons, he had been the Raiders’ quarterbacks coach, working with No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell. But after the staff was fired there, DeFilippo had to swallow his pride and take a low-level job with the Jets that was basically quality control.
Eight years later, DeFilippo is the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach as they face the Patriots in Super Bowl LII on Sunday.
“It was hard at first,” DeFilippo said. “It took some adjustment. It was truly a life lesson that I’ve taken with me. I gave myself three or four days to be … I don’t want to say disappointed because if you’re coaching in the NFL there’s no reason to be disappointed, but I took three or four days to adjust myself to my new role. After that, it was full speed ahead.”

Jim Schwartz not falling into Bill Belichick's praise trap
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — If Bill Belichick were fishing, Jim Schwartz...
DeFilippo spent just one season with the Jets, but in that time, he bonded with defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Both were the sons of coaches, had grown up in Philadelphia and shared a love of cigars.
“You never know why you’re at a place,” DeFilippo said. “There was a reason I was with the Jets. I was there to meet Mike Pettine.”
Pettine gave DeFilippo his first offensive coordinator job in 2015 with the Browns, where he coached Johnny Manziel for a year before that team’s staff was fired. He then came to the Eagles, where he has mentored Carson Wentz and has gotten backup Nick Foles ready to play after Wentz’s season-ending injury in December.
The work DeFilippo has done in Philadelphia has not gone unnoticed. He is one of the hottest coaching candidates in the league. The Vikings reportedly are interested in interviewing him after the Super Bowl to replace new Giants coach Pat Shurmur as offensive coordinator. He also had head-coaching interviews with the Bears and Cardinals last month.

Bill Belichick's genius in one area has largely been overlooked
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Chris Simms spent a year working as...
The Jets wanted DeFilippo to be their offensive coordinator last year, but the Eagles blocked him from interviewing since he still was under contract. Now, his contract is up, and he can go if he chooses.
“I’m going to have my opportunity to call plays again,” DeFilippo said. “I had my opportunity to call plays last year several places. Who knows what’s going to happen after Sunday?
“I’m in no rush to the leave the Eagles. If an opportunity presented itself, like a head-coaching job, then obviously you’ve [got] to take a look at it.“You just don’t leave the Eagles, being from Philadelphia, when you have a franchise quarterback that the whole building believes in, when you have a really good defense, a really good coaching staff, a head coach that you love working for and offensive coordinator that you love working with. There’s a lot of positives.”

Vikings must really want to talk with this dude. 39 years old, young gun. Maybe some of Pederson's moxie will rub off on this guy.
He really would like to talk with the Vikings as well. Contrary to some reports.

Would have to think the Viking job is pretty desirable.  QB unknowns aside, we have a good line, a promising young RB, very good WRs and TE.   Plus a defense that will keep the playbook open most of the game.

just so everyone isnt expecting miracles,  please note that he is not the OC version of Jesus.   He has had some successes,  but even the great Defilipo couldnt fix jamarcus russell or johnny maziel.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing.  Either unlucky or part of the issue?  Twice he has coached an absolute bust and been part of a staff that was fired.

I've seen reports weeks ago that he might not be interested and will stay in Philadelphia, so no surprise if he's not.

That would have been spinning straw into gold - bad QB picks by dense management teams. I just want someone who can take a decent QB and call a game that gets the most of their talents.

Eagles must want to keep him pretty badly if they're holding to the 10-day thing.

They probably think the Vikings will simply hire their next in line, who I'm guessing is Stefanski?

I've read that if Stefanski does not get the Viking OC job he'll go to New York with Shurmur. I wonder if Rick has asked him to put off any decision until after they've had a chance to interview Flip. A big ask since the Giants, who have yet to fill their OC job, seem to be waiting for him. But Stefanaski, who has been in Minny for 12 years (enough to sink roots) has to think of the Vikings (a much better team) as his best option.

One more thing. I wonder if the Vikings aren't curious about putting more RPO into the offense. I don't know how many the Vikings ran, but according to PFF, nobody in the NFL ran it more than the Eagles, who used it this season three times more than the league average. It's not too crazy to think they would not be champions without it.

The NFL is a copycat league and I tend to think the RPO could be a pretty effective play for a team with Dalvin Cook.
