So who's going to be the new OC?

I'm going to bet its McCoy if they don't go Stefanski. The allure for McCoy would be full autonomy to run the offense and he's a good strategist. Would be a good move for the franchise.
McCoy was heavily criticized in Denver for having an overly complicated play book and eventually lost his job due to an ineffective offense. I don't want any of these retreads that are going to force feed a system like Norv did when we don't have the personnel to run it. I would rather take my chances with Stefanski that he can develop into a good play caller. You can't be a good play caller if you are never given an opportunity to do it. I think he's done a nice job with our QB's and hopefully has learned enough with his time here to take that next step. McVay never had any play calling experience before Jay Gruden gave him a shot as his OC in 2014. I think that turned out pretty well.
Agreed with your thought process. As the good NFL GMs say: you don't want the guy who just won the Superbowl, you want the guy that's going to win the next one. The next excellent offensive coordinator could be Stefanksi, who knows? Just because he hasn't done it before doesn't mean he can't. Its a bad idea as to a reason to not place him in that spot if you feel he's a smart guy and has big upside with more responsibility.

I'm not sold on Stefanski, but a big part is being leery of someone who has hung around since the Childress staff and through Les Frazier too. Is that unfair or lacking in loyalty? Maybe - but new NFL coaches often clear out the last regime, and coaches who are truly talented can usually find opportunities with another team. One of my criticisms of Zimmer was that he kept Frazier assistants like George Stewart and Jeff Davidson around - I think it showed a lack of interest in those areas. We finally saw some offensive life under a brighter mind.
Stefanski would just be the low-effort choice, and I am hoping a LOT of effort is put into improving this club for the 2018 season.

I think the one thing I'd like to see is aggression. Aggressive on offense (Philly threw a friggin' flea flicker against us...  :# ). I want to see us attack, attack, attack. Whoever gives us that opportunity, that's the OC I want.

what you see as a negative,  i see as a positive.  he has stuck around through multiple systems and coordinators.  he has had a lot of experience in seeing what works and what doesnt and if he is still here there must be something about the guy that keeps him employed.  hes also young so he might have a fresher perspective on the game than some of the older dogs that are more entrenched in "their" system than in necessarily making a system that works for the players they have.

Those are all valid concerns. I guess I like to look at it from a different perspective. Despite several coaching regime changes, he has persevered and has continually worked his way up the ladder to where he is now. I don't think he would have been retained through all of these changes if management didn't feel like he was a bright young coaching mind with a lot of potential. I guess we will find out what Zimmer thinks of him. I do think that McAdoo is a better fit with his style of play and our current offensive personnel if we decide to go outside.

You won't be seeing that in Minnesota. Virtually the opposite of the style Zimmer wants.

It's a fair perspective, but it makes me think of an employee who will stay at the same job even when the place turns into a shitstorm (Childress and Frazier regimes) rather than going somewhere that offers a chance to grow and learn, because...gosh, interviewing and convincing other people you're smart is hard, maybe I should just put up with the mess! I don't know Stefanski at all, so maybe I'm all wrong and he has actually had a decade-plus master plan to gradually build this team's offense from within.
Is there a lot of interest in Kevin Stefanski from other teams around the NFL? Have we heard chatter about other GMs having their eye on him as one of the bright young minds of the league? OK, market demand isn't always a perfect prediction of a person's ability, but there are no perfect ones. Stefanski has worked under Darrel Beville, Bill Musgrave, Norv Turner, Pat Shurmur...are we sure he will be more like Shurmur than Musgrave or Turner?

I think it really comes down to what Zimmer is comfortable with, he knows Stefanski better than any of us. We could also see another Shumur situation play out too. Say the Vikings end up promoting Stefanski to OC, they could still bring in McAdoo or McCoy as a specialist to help with play calling.

I have researched a ton this morning about the OC position. I was higher on McCoy. I think I have come out of this morning on the side of McAdoo being our OC. I believe he would be a better fit here with Zimmer and has the pieces to make it work.

Oh yeah, that really worked out well and built a nice, stable coaching staff in 2016, didn't it?? I would like to think that, since Zimmer wants to put the offense in someone else's hands, he learned not to put a "replacement in waiting" in place to second-guess the OC that he "trusts"...
