Its funny that if you have a mid QB you end up being that desperate to get rid of them, and here we are that desperate to get them.

But what happens next year? How much are we paying Kyler after the house money runs out?

Either way they'll be paying a QB.

A little sooner if Murray blows up here vs McCarthy at year 5.

So probably just a year apart?

We're all putting the cart way b4 the horse lol! But good interim discussion

It depends totally on what his performance is this season...assuming that we do sign him.
Like I said a few days ago, I'd like to see a one-year prove-it deal with a team-option one more year.

That gives us flexibility to keep him or move on and let JJM take the reins if that happens.

However, if he takes us to the promised land, he deserves to get paid.

Boy, this is assuming an awful lot, isn't it?

I don't really know the rules, but I don't think we can do that this year.  I think if we sign him to a multi year deal the whole thing offsets, not just the first year and you lose the benefit of the offset.

Maybe, there's some way to play the first couple games and then do an extension?

Like no one saw this coming....

Overpaying quarterbacks to try and push the market higher when the talent and ability isn't there.... This is what happens.

Unsure how this is gonna change in the years ahead, but something is off.

This is NFL free agency in a nutshell, however. Its not just QBs. Overpaying is exactly what happens and several teams each year take it on the chin with bad signings with guaranteed money. Its the guaranteed money that has changed the game. The market is what it is, nobody is 'pushing' it anywhere but the teams involved. You can thank Kirko Chainz as the pioneer as he was the dude that really got a big dose of guaranteed money when he came to Minnesota....and then what he did in Atlanta should be in sports lore for the rest of time. Grand larceny. Kirk's great grandkids will be sitting around their 4th home in Aspen, drinking hot chocolate in gold mugs by the fire, toasting to good ol' great granddad.

But this guy should be considered the GOAT:
