Interesting take...

Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love both drafted in the 1st round and sat for 3 years. JJM should have had a similar path.

I’d be hard-pressed to imagine the Vikings give up on him, but ESPN’s Aaron Schatz brought up the possibility albeit in couched terms. “This is likely never going to happen, because it would be ridiculous for the Vikings to unload a player who still has first-round upside after 10 starts. However, a fresh start for McCarthy with a different organization might be the best thing for his career.”

STRIB
That is about the stupidest part of this whole idiocy.  Fresh starts are for guys who have started, struggled and need something new after several years.  Kid hasn't even started yet.  He needs time on the field, consistency in coaching and a quiet off-season.  Not more change.

I know when the season ended Jettas was talking about working with JJM over this off-season...Hope that comes to fruition.

It's early in the offseason, plenty of time for that still.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

What continues to amaze me are the choruses of voices using Darnold as the example of KAM's misjudgment, KOC's failure, the Wilfs' lack of control, etc...

...but practically NONE of them note that giving up on the kid -especially after he looked much better, later, as a developing player will do- would put the Vikings right there with the Jets and Carolina (and the Giants, come to think of it) in terms of giving up on the high pick early. The same bobbleheads that roast those teams while singing Sam's praises don't seem to realize that the "fresh start" would mark him as unable to grasp KOC's offense AND mark the Vikings as unable to develop young QB talent.

Both are bad looks, and unnecessary. He needs competition and the team needs insurance...but, the best scenario is that JJM works and bulks up this offseason, and matches his moxie with legit capability and availability.
KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

I don't see KOC gambling his job on JJM.  Murray, Derek Carr, Malik Willis or God help us Kirko/Karen are probably in the mix.  He needs a playoff win to ensure he makes it to year six.  If one of those guys signs in the next couple months I'd expect JJM to be dealt for a bag of peanuts before opening day.

I disagree. KOC was hired to identify & develop the Vikings franchise QB. If JJM is dealt "for a bag of peanuts", that's more likely a fireable offense than the failure to win a playoff game.

One thing for certain, the QB rumors will be heating up during/after the Combine.

I find it sad/frustrating to be in this situation with the position in 26...Still rooting for the kid to take the reins and run - but I gotta prep myself for any eventuality at this point.

I would say Lewis Cine had more to do with getting KAM fired.   Not that one bust per-say,   but is indicative of a roster that reflects a tenure of draft day failures and trades that didnt pan out, forcing even more desperate measures to find competent people.  Young QBs rarely make an immediate impact,  add in injuries and JJMs start is a forgivable situation,  but you dont put that on the GM.  Hes gone because our roster is largely lacking  any quality depth and quality youth,  which is why you have a GM.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Of course. But its on the wish list of some....why, I have zero idea. Some like to watch it burn, I guess.

Agreed...

No doubt they'll bring in a new QB to compete...But I certainly dont tie that to the release/trade of a QB they drafted in top 10 and is barely 23.

No matter who the Vikings add to their QB room, and no matter if that QB is our starter in 2026 or not, there's virtually no chance the Vikings move on from JJ. It would go against everything we've heard KOC say about teams failing QBs.
