Ridiculous. NFL owners are acting like halfwitted fans. Don't win the Super Bowl? Fire the coach. McDermott coached Buffalo for 9 seasons. During that time, he coached 16 playoff games, winning 8 and missing the playoffs only once.

They probably would have had a ring (or 2) by now if someone named "Mahomes" wasn't in their way (and in his prime) the last 5/6 years.

Who do they think they're going to get who's a marked improvement?

McDermott has had some bad playoff blunders, hasn't reached a Super Bowl, and if he was going to get the team there... This was the year. Didn't do it. Grass isn't always greener, but Josh Allen isn't getting any younger.

That's just it. If you told me the Vikings could hire a new coach, and in 9 seasons they'd play in 16 playoff games, I'd say sign me up! I think the goal of every coach/GM should not be to win the Super Bowl per se—that requires talent, health and luck coming together all at once in the playoffs. The goal should be to win consistently enough to where one year, when the stars actually do align for you, you can maybe go all the way. McDermott did that in Buffalo. You really can't ask for much more.

Quickly becomes the #1 spot for any HC candidate. Imagine coming in as a first year coach with legit chance to go to Super Bowl.

Somewhere John Harbaugh is kicking himself for signing so soon!

You or I could take the Bills to the playoffs every year with the best QB in the game on our roster.   There's no reason to just keep rinse repeating playoff exits with McDermott.
