The year of the DT. So many to choose from that year. I liked DeWayne Robertson a lot, others were into Johnathan Sullivan, and for the size obsessed, there was Jimmy Kennedy. The morning of that draft, I posted "Don't forget about Kevin Williams" because he was getting a lot of late buzz.
According to reports, the Vikings were indeed targeting Kevin Williams, but Red McCombs wanted the Vikings to take him a couple spots lower to save money. So the Vikings had a trade down from 7 to 10 agreed to with the Ravens, but for whatever reason, and unbeknownst to the Vikings, it was never signed off on by the NFL.
Shocked to find themselves on the clock, the Vikings let two picks go by before taking Kevin Williams at 9. Very embarrassing to the organization but it was the NFL's fault, not the Vikings'. Either way, the Vikings got the last laugh. Kevin Williams became a 5X 1st team All Pro and was far better than either of the two picks at 7 or 8.

I remember that whole debacle pissed me off and the cherry on top was not taking Terrell Suggs, who went one pick later to Baltimore. Turned out we couldn't have gone wrong either way as both players should be in the Hall of Fame and had great careers

This would be so against the spirit of the rule that they'd have to change it, and we won't benefit. Hopefully not the case.

I don't think we're going to have to worry about the comp picks. Teams are so laser focused on culture right now, as they should be. But when you combine the lawsuit and all the baggage that goes with it, combined with the bad things everyone already knew, but was just repeated by Ryan Fitzpatrick this week, it would be a big surprise to me if he gets a HC offer.
"I think he's gonna have a really hard time if you're interviewing for him as a head coach. I think in the interviews he'll be likable, he'll be relatable. But when people say 'okay, gimme somebody from Miami that coached under you as a reference so we can talk to them.' I think he burned a lot of bridges there. I think he alienated himself from the entire staff. ... I think by the end of his time there he became a dictator." - Ryan Fitzpatrick
Not exactly the kind of hiring decision a GM wants to spend months defending. And if it goes south early? Good luck keeping your own job.

I find it hard to see him get a HC job this go around. Some part of me thinks by acting on his case now the NFL is using it as a ploy to remind owners and GMs about the situation and make this a core part of the decision process. The case has been “dormant” for over four years. During this period Flores has no real shot at a HC position.

It's out of the Vikes hands. If other teams want to interview him on 1/14 for head coach he's not gonna say no. Especially if the Bills or Packers or somewhere gets crazy.

Even with a new DC contract, he can still interview for HC jobs, it woukd just prevent him from making lateral moves and keep the Vikes from getting screwed out of draft picks. I think KAM needs to make this a priority, make him Asst HC and the highest paid DC and see if that doesnt get him to sign tomorrow.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I think that's worth a try. I just think he wants to test the market and get the maximum amount of money.
