When I look back on the plethora of mistakes this franchise routinely makes, I think letting Hunter walk in free agency for nothing was one of the biggest. This guy continues to be one of the best overall players in the league. Already has 11 sacks this year and has that Houston defense the #1 ranked unit in football. His numbers alone dictate he'll be in the Hall of Fame....and we let him walk....for nothing. If there was never any intention of re-signing him (somehow) then trade him and get something for him. He had 16.5 sacks his last season with us and we just let him inexplicably walk out the door as a free agent. Just mind boggling

The question I have is were they really in a position to get something in return given the situation?
I dont recall the specifics anymore.
They do get credit from me for Gink/Greenard signings as they were both exemplary gets.
I wouldnt give those two up for Danielle.

Greenard and Van Ginkel have a combined 5 sacks on the season. Down year for both. Hunter has been consistently good throughout his career and also sets the edge against the run. I don't know, it's just frustrating to see a guy who's been so consistently good like Hunter has and know we let him walk for nothing. But it's how the Vikings and ownership do it because they think they are contenders every year when they really aren't and will hold on to guys instead of moving them for assets when there's no intention of re-signing them.

He didn't fit this system on D at all.

Count me as one who misses the old 4-3 defense.

I am usually a very pro 4-3. But I like Flores style on the 3-4. Just relies more on LBs that can do it all. Hard to find most the time.

Maybe I'm just in my typical morning stupor, here, but didn't Hunter basically command a new deal every season, or close to it...at least, during his last few with the team?
As much as I still love a dominating defense for our team, maybe even more than elite offense, it gets old when the bobbleheads are asking "what will happen with Hunter?" the way they did, and will again (DAMMIT), speculate about our QB situation.
If we can get sync'd up as a team, maybe for the first time all season, I think we'll relish the team players even more than a monster like Hunter. The biggest problem that I've seen all season is that with JJM in various types of flux, the team seems disjointed in at least 2 phases.
OK, KOC, time for that miracle....

I loved Zimmer's 4-3, that is my standard, never was much of a fan of the AFC north 3-4 based defenses. But Flores has made me a fan. I love watching his D. Don't understand it, but it is damn good.
As to Hunter, he was hurt and missed most of 2 (3?) seasons. He wasn't a good fit in this D, so paying him didn't make sense. If we had stayed with a 4-3, you keep him. He is a beast. One of the best draft picks as far as value and production.

16.5 sacks playing in this defense his last year in Minnesota. Again though, if he was never a good fit, trade him and get something for him. Instead they keep him because the owners think we are contenders every year. We ended up 7-9. It's just stupid decisions like this by ownership that have hindered this team because they run things like fans instead of owners looking at the big picture. That philosophy has not served this franchise well over the years
