Hurry up and dry cement!
#21
Lots of images out there this week of him throwing from a really messed up base, one leg flailing up in the air.  He didn't do that at Michigan. Never going to be accurate throwing like that.  Hes got the yips imo and maybe needs a psychologist. Or a better pregame meditation routine.

Fundamentals were the last thing you worried about with McCarthy, now the guy couldn't hit water from a boat. You'd think the one thing he could work on while injured last year were fundamentals and footwork. I just dont understand any of this or why it's become such an issue for him

I definitely had thoughts during the game, watching JJ do well in the 2 minute/hurry up, it is sort of obvious he is thinking to much.  Why?  Wonder if the harping on footwork, base and all that is having a negative effect.

When he goes out and just plays without thinking, he seems to thrive.  Maybe try a tempo offense, get into some hurry up early in the game.

play and the coaches do their job.   Yes he was terribly inaccurate versus Chicago, but he had receivers drop balls. He put a little bit too much
mustard on some of his throws but it's all a learning curve.
I played college basketball and had a cup of coffee with the Charlotte Hornets in the pros. I played with some top notch rookies and also saw the behind
the camera stress some had with the pressure from the press and fans. I was a rookie and the most pub I got was being asked questions about Michael.Smile
The kid is 22 and learning.   Mark my words we're going to have a good one here.

When you're playing like Ponder, you're gonna get compared to him.  All JJ needs to do is play some great games with accurate passes, a high completion rate, and no interceptions.  The Ponder comparisons will then fall by the wayside.  I'm pulling for JJ to improve and progress to an average or better QB.  He has the tools to be well above average, still a redshirt rookie and will take some time to get there.

Again, I go back to McCown being his quarterback coach and that Bryce Young didn't start getting better until McCown was gone. Is it possible with all the down time McCarthy has had, that's he's being "over coached." That has to be a possibility because I don't know how else to explain a guy being extremely accurate in college, to all of a sudden looking like he's never thrown a football in his life.

I think if they simplify things and focus on being a game manager at this point, it might help him not overthink as much

We cant say with certainty it was McCown....Darnold had his best year with McCown (and udinski?)

For Young, it could very well have been simply an additional year of seasoning and therefore less thinking and the processor aint working overtime.

Wasn't there a head-coach change too? I mean it could be a whole bunch of things.
