This Vikings team is really on paper, a playoff team. He has a receiving core most quarterbacks would die to throw to. Best offensive line we've had in years. A defense that will keep him in games. He had a year to sit and learn the offense. The issues we are seeing with McCarthy are between the ears and right now, he looks a hell of a lot like Christian Ponder. Hoping to see some signs of life before the season ends
His numbers would look a whole lot better if receivers quit dropping the ball. Some of that’s on him, but not all of it.

He's going to look a lot better this week.
It's okay to be a bit concerned after the last game. I am. I think he's got a shot to be an excellent quarterback but very well may suck in the next, 2, 3 or more games and then progressively get better... We've had young QB's fail before, it's okay to be unsure of the future. It is always wise to never get too high or too low relative to the Viking team or Viking players. They'll either surprise you, bite you in the a$$ or do whatever is expected. A football fan's life!

For the love of God the kid has started 5 NFL games! Posters comparing him to Ponder and should be like Mahomes. Just chill and let the kid
play and the coaches do their job. Yes he was terribly inaccurate versus Chicago, but he had receivers drop balls. He put a little bit too much
mustard on some of his throws but it's all a learning curve.
I played college basketball and had a cup of coffee with the Charlotte Hornets in the pros. I played with some top notch rookies and also saw the behind
the camera stress some had with the pressure from the press and fans. I was a rookie and the most pub I got was being asked questions about Michael.
The kid is 22 and learning. Mark my words we're going to have a good one here.

I assume Jimmy's referring to Alonzo Mourning and the Grandmama commercials? I remember those Grandmama commercials, damn I really am getting older...
Quick google search to see that old commercial, reminded me that Grandmama was played by Larry Johnson though.

Yep, likely a little later though than NC had his cup with the hornets. I wasn't much of an NBA fan by then, but I enjoyed those two with the hornets.
And really from UNC, I was more of a James Worthy fan.

I think when the cement dries McCarthy will be a franchise QB. It's pretty clear his first season as a starter will not be one of those magical first years we saw from Jayden Daniels, Stroud, Herbert, etc. I never really entertained the notion of him being a bust on a Josh Rosen level. And I still don't (fingers crossed). But the next worst-case scenario is what I fear might be in store for us. And it's going to require patience that many of us don't have. And that's a Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold or Jared Goff-type slow rise to relevance, and it's almost always on another team.
He can avoid all that just by closing out the year with a couple of good games and then going into next season an older, wiser, more confident and level-headed veteran QB.
Some former QB said last summer that the Vikings could play in the title game with just "average" QB play from McCarthy. While that might sound ridiculous now, I think it's also accurate. Average QB play beats the Bears. Average QB play beats the Ravens and Eagles and probably even the Steelers. I have to admit I'm a little baffled and frustrated we can't even seem to get average QB play from the kid yet.

I think JJM is pressing himself too much. That's one possible explanation of why he plays well at the end of the games ... he stops thinking and stops trying to be perfect.
