First off, Manti Teo is on GMFB now? Jeez.

Second, good video overall but Kyle Brandt saying, “(McCarthy) didn’t play great. I don’t know if he even played good…” Cmon!

McCarthy can't be too intense if he's balancing that with his meditations.  He even mentioned that the meditation helps calm him from his "ADHD" and ground him to visualize the games.  I truly believe in the power of visualization.

I think all successful QBs have a high degree of intensity, but the quarterbacks you mention have been able to balance it with a quiet mind and a level of calmness to match the situation. I just think JJ might benefit from taking it down a notch at times. With more playing time, he'll likely settle into a good balance, but he's not there yet. I think he even said himself that some of those off-target passes were because he was too jacked up.

makes you wonder if he watched the game or just the stat line.  his play wasnt great,  poorly thrown balls being the biggest issue ( very correctable)  but what I did see was poise,  he never looked like the moment was greater than him or that when things didnt go right that there was a chance he was going to let them snowball.   He will still have a ton of growing pains, but I will always prefer to see a young player learning and making mistakes along the way, than a veteran that is out there because hes the safer play.  if we arent trying new players and plays/schemes because they might not work out,  we will never find the next great player or whatever.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

To be fair, KB did go into a long diatribe on how he "felt for" McCarthy prior to those comments and those comments were bookended with..."he played, he finished, he won...as a Vikings' fan, we can work with this...I think we have a guy here".

Manti's comments and facial expressions about the Lion's upcoming practice were hilarious.

Yeah, I don't see that as intensity.  From what McCarthy was referring to, I see that as excitement.  He got too excited and either sailed the ball or messed up his mechanics on the throw.

I don't want to see him tone down intensity at all.  Don't change what has served him success over his entire life.  The only way this changes is if he removes that eye black paint on his face.  I don't see that happening.

When was the last movie, history lesson, successful start-up story, etc highlighting a passive leader or someone who didn't bring the intensity through words or actions?  Bring the intensity as that only fuels the fire of each and every player on both sides of the ball, the sidelines, the organization, and the fans.

I think intensity and being amped up can be two different things, and they are when it comes to McCarthy. He mentioned that he has to be less 'amped' up on some throws, that's why he misses some easy ones and makes the hard ones. That'll go away with more game reps. But his intensity is a big reason why he is who he is and why he's a 'fucking sicko' according to Brian O'Neill. Its genuinely him. That same intensity is why he's clutch. He certainly is chill a bunch of the time, so he's not balls to the wall 100% nuts 24/7. Its all a part of why he's so beloved.

But you are spot on about taking it down a bit to hit those easier passes and he knows that:

“His overall demeanor is such a positive throughout the game,” O’Connell said. “If anything, sometimes he gets really excited. He’s competitive. This guy’s a winner.”

Exactly. That perfectly echoes what I was saying. KO just put the exclamation point on my point.

The good news? He already has that spark — the intensity and energy that fires people up.

I’m as high on McCarthy as anyone but reminder— He’s not “only going to get better”. We all know these things don’t work in a straight line upwards. He could throw 4 picks this weekend, who knows.

But it’s so nice now that we’ve seen the potential and the results. For four quarters. And it’s there. Waiting to be fully unlocked! Hopefully he can go out and do it again but if this week or next week or the week after is a step backwards that’s okay too.

The LAC and ATL games weren’t great but otherwise I’m having a lot of fun with this team.

#Vikings OL Donovan Jackson on what JJ McCarthy said during yesterdays game:

“He was like, ‘Hey man, all we’ve got to do is worry about this play, then after that we’ll worry about the next play. But for now, give everything you have for this one play. We’ll sleep on the plane back.’”
