My take away from this (and Gates' main point) is there are now big, additional factors (besides climate change) that threatens life and quality of life around the globe. That reality means an evolution of where resources go. Makes sense to me.
As far as climate change goes, nobody on this planet is going to convince me it isnt real.
Ive lived in MN for over 6 decades and I know what I feels and sees now vs when I was a kid. This is beyond cyclical.

If you read the essay or more than a headline, that would be Gates main point. But then what do you expect here.

There is no doubt that it's been warmer during the last 10 years in Minny and here in Cheeseland but to equate that to proof positive of Global Climate Change is nonsensical. All that proves is that it's been warmer here for the last 10 years. There were no major hurricanes in the US between 2005 and 2015. Was that proof positive that severe weather and by extension Climate change was less prominent? Of course not. It was just reflective of the weather patterns of the year(s).
The Climate Change cult is a political party...not a scientific endeavour. That's why the primary body for all matters Climate Change is part of the UN. Frankly, if you took a drug compound with the track record of deceptive data collection, coverup/discrediting of conflicting data, wildly inaccurate claims about results similar to that of Climate Change movement...there would be Pharma executives going to jail for fraud. Climate change and potential causes are still not well understood. For what it's worth, the same was true for those that claimed we were heading for a mini ice age in the 70's. By the way, there is a lot of scientific chatter on a similar potential upcoming ice age in 2030 due to lower than normal sunspots (and corresponding sun brightness). It's a phenomenon called the Maunder minimum. We had a similar "little ice age" from 1840 to 1880 due to the same phenomenon.
As a scientist (and an independent), I tend to disagree with anything that comes from a political / ideological perspective. Anybody that claims anything related to science is "settled", they're either ignorant or a liar. The Scientific method demands vigorous debate and vetting of scientific advancements. If the science is there, let it come out and be thoroughly vetted in a non-partisan way. That's the way that science needs to happen.
Gates is just pointing out the obvious. These over the top analyses and kneejerk reactions don't serve the science well.

Hey, leave me alone, it fits my narrative lol!
And I fully admit to abandoning my 35 years of being a market researcher discipline connecting dots...Its just such a stark change the last 10 years as you point out here in MN and in Cheese land too.

What would people have been saying about climate change during the Ice Ages, the Dust Bowls, and other eras where the climate acted crazy? The earth has been here billions of years. A decade of Minnesota being warmer isn’t really a big data point. In the 70’s there were more concerns about cooling than warming. The whole idea has shifted directions 3 times in the last fifty years. It’s a hoax and always has been imho. The Great Reset has been paused. That’s what it was about all along.
