Danny Dimes: KOC is 'next level' on preparation
#11
I’m always down for drafting a high caliber QB prospect. I wouldn’t trade a bunch of picks for one, but if one is available wherever we pick, by all means.

I don’t think that means giving up on JJM, as I believe in competition rather than quitting on a guy early. I’d much rather have two guys in the pipeline than none.

Christian Ponder was a first round pick that was given three years, mostly as a starter.  I believe the Vikings will give JJM at least 3 years as well and expect that he will clearly outperform Christian Ponder's first 3 years.  JJM will have better coaching, better receivers, and hopefully an improved OL.

I think sometimes the quarterbacks that get drafted in the 1st round and had a good college career may have the attitude that what worked in college will now work in the NFL. They don't have the knowledge that they need to keep working hard and learning how to succeed at the next level.

Also they might not have the desire once they get a fat bank account.

Could be.

Could be.

The main reason you can't keep drafting QBs under your theory is there's only so many snaps: QB1 gets the majority, QB2 much less and QB3 basically none. And during the regular season, QB1 is all the staff focuses on. JJ got an hour of KOC's time per week last year during the regular season, he's trying to win games with QB1 (Darnold in this case). You'd never see what you have.
