Lets look at this objectively. We are banking on two 30+ year old lineman signed in free agency coming off major injuries. Phillips is 29 and has played in every game the last three seasons. The backups are completely unproven. Redmond flashed a little, but LDR was a scratch in every game, and Ingram-Dawkins is a mid round athletic flyer that didn't even start at Georgia. Taimani has reportedly been basically a non factor in camp. I would have felt a lot better starting a proven veteran run stuffer in Phillips over now having to rely on unproven players. Questionable decision for sure

I agree with you and if this blows up in our faces I’ll be critical of it. But the coaches are the one’s watching the players and HP is the odd man out. The playoff wins haven’t been there but outside the draft, this regime has earned my trust. Great teams know when to cut players loose. Pats and Eagles do it all the time. Im interested to see how this plays out.

I hope they see something in one of the young guys, but who plays and starts at NT now? Hargrave? That's what they were having him do in San Francisco and he wasn't close to being as effective as he was in Philly. I would have liked to keep him as a 5-technique. ESPN is listing Redmond as out starting NT. I don't really see that being his best position and he's a little light in the pants. Taimani is a true NT, but he might not even make the final roster. It's been discussed that perhaps Flores just wants penetrators up front and doesn't subscribe to the typical NT types. That now certainly appears to be the case. Hope it works.
