McCarthy's Debut

It's really no longer necessary with the advent of joint practices.  He gets way more live reps there than he'd get in any preseason game along with the benefit that he doesn't have to take hits that could cause injury.

Preseason is now mainly a place for 2nd and 3rd string guys to get live reps and bolster their case to make the team.

Just because he was familiar with that type of offense in Michigan does not translate to the NFL.  I think KOC may have tweaked the offense, but more to the point, he and Kwesi have tweaked his supporting cast on OL and backfield.
We'll see soon enough.

I expect dink and dunk to start off the season. The Broncos brought Bo Nix along pretty slowly last year before really opening things up after the first half of the season. It seemed to work very well for his development. Not all QBs are the same and maybe being sidelined for a year means McCarthy doesn't need training wheels, but my guess is that KO will have them installed anyways.

are they having joint practices again this week?  I only heard about them prior to last weeks game.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

No just last week.  The Pats did two weeks of joint practices, first with Washington.

QB gets drafted in Top 10
goes thru OTA
Goes thru TC
plays 1 preseason game then goes on IR

The path JJ is on is the only time it has happened in NFL history, national coverage is missing this point

At the NFL level, especially for QB's, it's all about the number of mistakes.

When JJ was put on IR he got to watch how the sausage is made. He saw Darnold go thru it and hit a slump and work his way out of it. . Game plan,, audibles, protection, adjustments, game film, play selection and how KOC calls a game plus all the little things....he saw it and now knows it.

Vikings have done an outstanding job of surrounding him with ALL the necessary pieces.

He still has to execute but he'll have an advantage over a typical rookie .No way to tell how much but I'd argue the number of mistakes he'll make this year will be significantly lower than what it would have been in 2024.

Looking at the big picture he has some massive advantages in his favor. Especially New IOL and Top 3? 5? short yardage back in Mason (those pieces were not here last year)

He won't be prefect but there is a clear path to where he starts well and improves as the year unfolds.

On paper the Vikings defense will very likely be Top 5, again. No way The offense is gonna be Top 5 in year 1 with JJ.
