Bradford is really the only thing that was worth a shit tonight.

The defense was utterly and completely pathetic. Diggs forgot how to catch a football.... The offensive line looked like it didn't even show up. We are extremely soft up the middle of our defense. But hey we have a speedy rookie there and a guy that so far his most notable play is taking out our own player on defense.

Now maybe it's all just preseason.... But I know they said that Zimmer said that his own team looked like dog shit... or maybe it was that he said the team needs to get back to doing basic things correctly. Loose translation.

I don't need to see my team win games in preseason. I don't care about the scoreboard at all. I don't care about yardage even or any of the stats save for things like completion percentage. Because that stat shows things like competence. i just need to see my team have a look of competence, confidence, and consistency. Throughout preseason we have yet to see anything of the sort this year. Maybe the new punter.... I don't know. They say that they have a lot of new wrinkles on defense this year... well if you introduced new wrinkles to the tam and it's the 3rd preseason game and your team still looks like they can't get their shit together..... You fucked up at preparing your team, because you have 2 weeks to get it figured out. Oh whats that? I dunno maybe we are all supposed to take the excuse that this is all just a preparation for 2019, and 2018 is just a learning season. Take that season ticket holders!

My excitement is in the absolute crapper at this point. It is becoming an all too familiar feeling to try and excuse the play of our team to "It's just preseason". We don't look like we even have a clue what we are doing. Show me that our offensive linemen can figure out where to line up.

I don't know. I am just not excited in the least.......

So we will probably win the super bowl this year.

I want to be excited. But if the regular season is anything like the 1st team has played in the preseason, offense and defense, there's not a lot of reason to be.

If we play like this in the regular season, I will be excited for the Draft

'Where is the excrement?' might be the better question

You're right, but we know the answer to that...
Again, I know its preseason and all that jazz, but as others have said (and much better than I can), there was just nothing presented on the field last night to get me excited about any possibilities for this season.
Here's to hoping they wake up for the Saints game and stay awake for the season.

For me because our wonderful GM did absolutely nothing to improve the offensive line.  And the reports from training camp are not good in that regard.  My 3 year old grandson knows we have no shot if the QB get's killed like he did last season.
what was speilman supposed to do that he didnt regarding the OL?  the team was in on about every FA Tackle and even some Guards, they ended up signing 2 pretty decent players (althought they may end up getting moved around, they got the best of what they could)  they moved up to what they think is a good future OL starter, and added another mid round guy to compete as well.   IMO the best thing they did was finally walk away from a loser in Kalil,  I was so afraid that they were going to get nervous and give him another contract.
I'm pretty certain they offered Kalil a contract and tried very hard to retain him, but he was just set to leave and at least one other team gave him what he wanted (longer term). They were still waiting to hear what Kalil wanted to do as FA started and that likely handicapped their efforts on other players. Reiff may be a decent player, but Remmers looks like a career backup that we overpaid.

What Spielman/Zimmer probably needed to do was clean house completely in OL coaching and scouting. Bad as Davidson was, Sparano has been worse. 2 of 3 OL signed in free agency in the last two years (Boone and Remmers) are scrubs.

Posters who want to be seen as wise and patient are going to say, "You can't fix a line overnight." But Atlanta had one of the worse offensive lines in 2014 and with new coaching made it average in 2015 and pretty good in 2016. NFL teams don't get to keep players for a decade any longer so fast improvement is expected, If someone is scheming a 5-year plan for building an offensive line, they better be preparing it for the next GM and HC.

they had a price in mind for kalil and werent going to exceed it.  thats what happened there.  how did that affect what they were doing on anybody else?  if anything slowed them down in the OL FA market it was them waiting on the kid from Cincy (top guard) to decide what he wanted to do.  They went after guys but didnt get them for several reasons,  its not like they were only targeting one player at a time during FA.  its not like the OL FA market was full of quality Tackles this year.  they had to do something and this is what they got.  yes coaching might be an issue, but at some point we have to leave things alone for a little while and see what comes from continuity.

It is easy to complain and criticize and the amount of those posts drowned-out anything positive.
