Really interesting podcast here between Tyler Dunne and Matthew Coller. I think it requires a subscription (bonus is you get McGinn's content). But there is a lot of stuff in this I wasn't aware of, including the Rodgers interest (legit due mostly to concerns about JJ's recovery and the big investments in the roster), JJ McCarthy's skillset ("they said we were getting Matt Hasselbeck; we might have gotten John Elway"), his IT factor (real moxie and magnetism), his improvement (terrible at OTAs, improved dramatically by training camp), his injury (worse than ACL according to a surgeon Coller spoke with) and subsequent weight loss ("wasn't supposed to happen"). They also mention a couple things about AR that might call into question that A+ character.
After Coller goes into detail about McCarthy's IT factor. Dunne says this...
"The opposite would be Anthony Richardson. He received a ticket for driving 105 in a 60 MPH zone at 4:11 am outside of Gainesville in April of 22....Did he learn from it? Two months later--TWO MONTHS!--he is apparently drunk at the Manning Passing Academy at Nichols State University. Police angry when Richardson leaned against the squad car. Manning staffers whisked him away in a van and Richardson apparently was screaming obscenities at the officers while they left the scene."

Whoa! That’s nuts! I heard Richardson was the kind of guy who cleaned up the locker room after his teammates left a mess.

Once you get past the first 10 minutes? A very good listen!!
Not fire-walled.

This is just two young guys talking, right? Neither has true inside information. I think that to say the weight loss wasn't 'supposed to happen' and his injury was 'worse than an ACL' is completely off. Both Pete Bercich and Ben Leber said the day after his infamous appearance on the sidelines in the playoff loss that its completely normal and a doctor's advice to lose weight to put less pressure on the knee until if fully heals, its a fairly recent medical way of rehabbing. And if the injury was 'worse than an ACL' he wouldn't have been golfing 2 weeks ago in Mexico.

Worse than an ACL? As far as I know there isn’t an ACL procedure you can opt for that puts you back on the field in about 6 weeks.

No there isn't, but I get the impression that an ACL is pretty cut and dried. Simple surgery. Out one year. A meniscus has two options. Removal and repair. Sounds like you might be referring to the removal? Which can get you back on the field fairly quickly, but hey, no meniscus. I think it's pretty obvious the JJ and the Vikings made the right call.

I believe it’s a trim vs repair. But, I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

So on Shedeur Sanders: starting to see some low level backtracking from media 'insiders' on Sanders going top 5. Doesn't look like the Giants are going to take him at #3, yet still want a QB somewhere in the Draft. I think he slides. The problem as I see it and some other detractors is that arm: its weird, because he has a little more umph throwing deep then he does mid-range throws, which is red flag danger for a NFL QB. Arm strength is very mid. Fans love the deep ball but your effective, bread and butter throws are the 15-25 yard darts over the middle and hitting out routes. So the average QB drops back about what, 5-7 yards from the line of scrimmage with a 3 to 5 step drop? Say its 3rd and 11....you need an accurate, tight spiral for 15 to 19 yards for a first down. We've seen it a million times with successful QBs. But that's INT territory in the NFL for a weaker armed dude.

I think the first possible stop is 7 with the Jets. They just committed $30 to Fields. $30 doesn’t stop you but who knows. Next is New Orleans which is probably where the slide stops.
But if it doesn’t?
Maybe the Browns jump back into the first and pair Hunter with Sanders.
Hmmmm

I’ve heard other people suggest that the Browns could pass on him in the first and then move up. I just don’t get it. I think you move up for a guy you have conviction for, but if you have conviction for them, you should just take them with the first pick, and not trade a ton of draft capital to go get that mid QB. Like how far does he have to fall to get into range where he makes sense to trade up for? Like trading a 2025 2nd and their 2026 1st gets them to like 15-16 not including the QB premium.
I feel like if I were the Browns, I’d be on the train of getting as many quality draft picks as possible and not fewer premium ones. There’s probably not going to be any solid way for them to be competitive with Watson’s boat anchor contract hanging around their neck, they just need to get the rest of the roster in a very cost conscious manner to absorb all that cap hit in as few years as possible, and have a bunch of young guys that are ready when that their reset is over. Like if they could trade down like 4 times a couple of picks, that’s probably what I would do, although Abdul Carter seems like a solid guy to build around.
