The pre draft maneuvering for that extra pick, and then the additional draft capital surrendered to move up for Turner is a large part of why our draft cupboards are so bare this year. He could have moved back and recouped picks after he got JJM and it stillnwould have been viewed as a solid first round win, he could have stood at 22(?) And got a good player, but he went all in on Turner and thats why I think out of the 2, Turners success carries more weight.

I mean JFC there's more to the position than one aspect of the job. For sure. I don't think anyone hasn't given him props in other areas. The Draft faux pas are glaring unfortunately.

Edge depth, unless I’m missing someone, is Turner, Murphy, and Ritcher. I’ll assume Turner gets the bulk of the snaps vacated by Jones and some of Ward’s. I know they’re really high on Murphy. I think I’d die laughing if Turner has a really good year but Murphy performs on par with him if not even better.

I forgot about Gabe Murphy. Man that would be great if he ended up being a contributor. Good athlete.

Who’s going to drop Gabe Murphy knowledge on this board, you Lt Sticky? ![]() He’s another guy like Pace who went undrafted due to short arms. Very productive at UCLA. Like Pace was generally expected to go early Day 3. Potentially another UDFA gem. ![]()

PALM BEACH, FLA. — The Vikings remain in discussions with General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah about a contract extension, co-owner Mark Wilf said from the NFL owners’ meetings on Monday. Wilf said the team wants to complete a new deal with Adofo-Mensah this offseason.
“Kwesi is part of our football leadership,” Wilf said. “We feel great about the moves Kwesi’s made, along with coach [Kevin] O’Connell and [Executive Vice President of Football Operations] Rob [Brzezinski] in terms of our salary cap position, our draft position potential. We have all faith in Kwesi, and we’ve had very, very positive conversations. That’s something we’re going to continue to work toward this offseason.” Wilf told the Minnesota Star Tribune in December that the Vikings planned to talk after the 2024 season about deals with both Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell, whose initial contracts expire after the 2025 season. On Jan. 21, eight days after the team’s playoff loss to the Rams, the Vikings agreed with O’Connell on an extension that runs through the 2029 season. Sources said other teams were monitoring the status of O’Connell, the NFL’s 2024 Coach of the Year. Wilf said Monday that “market dynamics” were a catalyst for quick negotiations with O’Connell, while adding the Vikings want to secure their foundation with both the coach and the GM. “We want to give long-term stability to our football leadership. And that’s why that happened,” Wilf said. “I mean, partly market dynamics, but again, we want to get Kevin and Kwesi done. We’re appreciative of Kevin and his family and what he’s meant for the Vikings, and same way for Kwesi.” Adofo-Mensah said last week he doesn’t think regularly about the team’s negotiations with agent Jimmy Sexton, and the duration of his contract gives the Vikings a little more time than they had with O’Connell’s deal. While coaches’ contracts generally expire after the season, GM deals run until after the draft, to provide front office stability through the busiest part of the offseason. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Adofo-Mensah’s contract does not expire until after the 2026 NFL draft. The Vikings have typically given the GM control of the roster, and Wilf said they’re unlikely to change their decisionmaking structure as part of contract negotiations. In their regular meetings with Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell, the Wilfs often lead with questions about process and alignment, making sure the team’s leaders agree on upcoming decisions. “I think it’ll work very much the way we’ve been doing it,” he said. “And again, I can’t think of even one time where we haven’t been able to work through and develop a consensus.” Startribune

I have zero doubt the Wilfs want to keep KAM. But he's not as important as KOC....and the 'market dynamics', which is a hilarious term, just means other teams were sniffing around if shit blew up in negotiations between KOC and the team and they needed to make it happen now. Nobody is knocking down Zygi's door to get at KAM....there's no worry about 'market dynamics' concerning Kwesi. I like KAM and want to keep him and I'm quite sure that is what is going to happen.

I was the one a year ago saying we needed more time to judge KAM, that he was being harshly critiqued .....and that probably still applies to some aspect. He's a mixed bag of success and failure. Why a few here are denying the criticism is more than silly, he deserves it. I've accused MB of being a homer in the past, which he is and I know he hates that, but its hard to deny. Look, Viking fans tend to see things through shit colored lenses. They just do. I'm no psychologist, but I think years of abuse has taken its toll on many of you. And so Viking fans, much more than any other fan base, approach cautiously and full of doubt because it costs less. It takes less of an emotional toll. I don't operate that way. But I understand why many do. I'm just here to plant a flag of reality on your planet of doom. How do you explain why a draft seen by most unbiased sources as one of the better drafts in the NFL is frequently panned by Viking fans? How do you explain why a GM who has completely flipped the script for this team is seen as a liability instead of an asset? You call it a mixed bag of success and failure. You mean like every GM? There are far more successes than failures with Kwesi. You also have this idea that says there is a hesitation, or some kind of hang up in the Kwesi negotiations, and so you craft an explanation that fits your narrative. I don’t think there’s a delay at all. I said months ago that his deal probably won’t get done until after the draft. But I think when it finally is done you’re going to realize that all this KAM doubt was never really there to begin with.

I'm not 'crafting' anything, you are my man. Spinning it. Listen, we've both said our stuff on this, and if you take a moment, you know I've propped up KAM as recently as 2 or 3 weeks ago with free agency. Which draft by unbiased sources is one of the better drafts in the NFL?? The Addison draft?? Because they got a WR2 and nothing else? That's craftwork at its best, sir. And others besides myself agree. But also some others side with your viewpoint. Its all good from my perspective. Its good dialogue. I've given KAM a bunch of credit in the past for things other than the Draft, its all there in the pages of the board. |
