Here's a deeper look at the Vikings' 2024 run scheme:
Balanced Approach: The Vikings strived for a more balanced attack, moving away from the heavy passing game of previous seasons. Run-Pass Balance: The team understood that rushing and throwing should work in unison, with not every carry or catch expected to be a big gain. Play-Action Success: O'Connell doubled down on play-action concepts, a strength from previous seasons, and reinforced and raised them a level. Diverse Run Concepts: The Vikings employed a diverse running game, mixing in inside zone, outside zone, and gap runs, primarily in the form of duo. Here’s what the Jets ran under Keith Carter who we just hired. In the 2024 season, the New York Jets' run game scheme hasn't seen a significant shift, with them primarily relying on a gap-blocking concept, while also incorporating motion and unique formations to stress defenses. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Gap-Blocking Focus: The Jets have used a gap-blocking concept on a significant percentage of their designed rushing attempts, ranking 18th in the NFL in this area. Here’s what the Colts ran last year. A "power run option scheme" in football combines the power run's physicality with the option's flexibility, allowing the quarterback to read the defense and either hand off to a running back or keep the ball and run, potentially creating a big play. Here's a breakdown of the concept: Core Principles: Power Run Base: The scheme is rooted in a traditional power run, emphasizing a strong, downhill rushing attack with double teams and lead blocking. Option Element: The quarterback reads a specific defender (often a linebacker or edge defender) and makes a decision based on their movement, either handing the ball off to the running back or keeping it and running the option. Blocking Scheme: Play-side linemen: Down block the man in their inside gap. Backside guard: Pulls as the lead blocker for the quarterback. Fullback: Iso block on the play side backer. Tight End/H-back: Kick-out block on the defensive end. Now, it could just be me, but I think Booker is probably a pretty good fit for what we do and where we are trending towards.

I would love it if Kelvin Banks (Texas) fell. He looks like a guy that could be an all pro LG potentially. Would finally have a line that is a strength.

The Athletic just mocked him to us after a trade down with Philly. He’s one of several OTs projected to G this year. He’d be a good get.

Whether or not we are trending towards using different schemes within the o line, you aren't a bit worried that he isn't great with his run blocking? I am not saying I don't like him, because I love his attitude, and he is nasty on the field. Just want to make sure it's a great all around prospect if you draft someone that high. I see it's impossible to have any adult conversation on this board any longer.

Here's my observation: I saw a lot of posters here drooling over Philly's O-line and what that made them capable of....and rightly so. If you draft a starting OG like Booker at #24, you've gone and put yourself in that zip code with Philly's line IMO. Especially a ball buster like Booker. Darrisaw-Booker-Kelly-Fries-O'Neill: you can ride all the way to a trophy with that crew.
You are correct with us most likley using different schemes and mixing it up. It also looks like that we will stay with our zone philosophy from what I looked up with different opinions. If its Booker, let roll. I won't be mad. In all reality, Kelly and Darrisaw will help anyone out that they put in there.
The Minnesota Vikings are likely to continue their focus on a zone-based run game with play-action concepts, but they may also incorporate more gap runs, especially with the additions of Ryan Kelly and Will Fries, who come from a team that ran more gap concepts. It's just cursed lol

Now that we go into the draft pretty much bulletproof, I am really liking it. A dominant OL is a great deodorant for any shortfall.
