I think it really boils down to...does McCarthy or Rodgers give us the best chance to win a championship THIS SEASON. That's the discussion taking place right now because that's where the rest of the roster is at.

The mystique of this guy is ridiculous, did anyone actually watch him play last year, he sucked! And on top of that you have one of the biggest aholes on the planet. He is not going to want to come in and be a backup. If we were not handing the team over to JJM this year then we should have kept Darnold or Jones. If they actually considering it, I will lose all faith in them and if they actually signed him, I would not be able to watch. It was awful having to see Favre in purple, we deserve better.

He's a different cat personality wise...  A good young HC in Green Bay said enough is enough and dumped him for their first round QB who barely played his first two years.

Then he goes to the Jets...  Literally has what ever he wants...  Jets bring in his favorite QB Coach to be his OC...  Has Garrett Wilson and they trade for Davante Adams and brought in Allen Lazard...  Breece Hall in the backfield...  Top 10 defense...

I mean the Jets had similar weaponry as we do, a great defense, and a better RB and he still took that team to a 7-10 record.  The stats look nice, but the record and how he reacted to adversity was not.

I think Kevin O'Connell and our staff is much better at coaching than what the Jets had, but do we want to bring any of that here?  I get having some hesitation about starting JJ, but at some point you have to see the kid play. I'd rather roll the dice on him than bringing in a guy who may be completely washed physically and isn't a culture fit at all.

The optics would be  like a huge betrayal to what they've said they stand for culturally and what they are trying to build going forward.

I cant believe they'd bench JJM for another year either.

I don’t really think much of what you said was valid at all.  The Packers were in a different spot.  They had already been paying him big bucks for a while.  They had a young QB approaching the end of their contract that they would have to either commit to or move on from, and they had to figure out what they had in him.  We could theoretically do two more years of Rodgers before ending up in the same spot with JJM.

The Jets are a disaster organization.  We’re not.  They gave him what he wanted or at least what they could obtain that he wanted.  They shouldn’t have.  They had a defensive HC and no real plan on offense.  We have an offensive HC who has a very firm grip on the scheme.  He wouldn’t be bringing Rodgers in and hiring the shit coordinator that Rodgers had and having a hands off approach to the offense.  Then their meddling owner fired the strongest coach on the staff and their defense went to shit.  Like assuming that Rodgers hasn’t fallen off a cliff since last year, I’d expect a much better performance out of Rodgers in our system compared to their system.  I would fully trust KOC to figure out some sort of compromise scheme that balances what Rodgers was most comfortable with, with what his scheme has done well with into something that is cohesive and makes everyone happy.

I just think it comes down to how much you like JJM and how stubborn Rodgers is being on money and years.  I wouldn’t give Rodgers a two year contract, unless there are void years in play just for cap purposes.  I think if you really, really like JJM, like how much KC like Mahomes, you roll the dice.  If Rodgers is stuck on getting a multiple year deal, let him go.  I think the thing that is most pro-Rodgers is Flores.  How many more successful defenses can we have before he’s given another HC job?  That is the biggest time constraint we have.  If he leaves our defense needs to have much more talent to get the same output.  Maybe they feel pressured to maximize things while he’s here.

Who says they would? Even if they did, I think people have always overreacted to the possibility of JJ sitting another year. I mean, so what? I didn't think it was a big deal when the Vikings were considering Darnold and it wouldn't be a big deal if he sits behind Rodgers for a year. The goal is win the Super Bowl.

So here's what my gut says. Rodgers would LOVE to play in this offense. He thinks he can win a Super Bowl in this offense. And the Vikings would love to have Rodgers...as our backup. He's 41 years old and he isn't what he used to be. He'll be 42 by the time the playoffs roll around. He has no right to expect a starting role. But that's what he wants. And I think he wants the Vikings to declare him the starter and they're not willing to do that.

Ownership, however, is intrigued. Can a 42yo, 4-time MVP, with the best surround he's ever had, finally win this team its first Super Bowl? Brady did it at 43. Is it worth the cultural chaos? Or is everyone overreacting about that? Are we really going to let Rodger's eccentricities prevent this team from its first championship? Joe Namath wore pantyhose. Aaron's just misunderstood.

For their part, the Vikings want him to come in, give us the security we need, and are willing to pay for. But at the very least Rodgers has to compete with JJ. And I think everyone including Rodgers, knows that he may not win that competition. And if he doesn't, he might just just throw a fit, retire and leave us stranded. So we have a stalemate while the Vikings consider other options....

There. Have I pissed off everyone yet?

Technically, they didn't bench JJM this last year. He got injured. He might have won the job. So, they wouldn't be benching him for another year. I agree with the optics though.

Honestly talent aside, just in terms of team culture that has been built - NO.

Why you would bring in a franchise killer is beyond me.
