When will we hear about Dimes?

I think having him around next season is important for the franchise while they figure out exactly what they got in JJM.

I think legal tampering is like days away?

I think a team like Cleveland might take a swing at Dimes. I hope not, I'd love to see him behind McCarthy. One year at KOC University would be good for the resume (that's what she said).

I know what we all saw yr 1 with Nix/DAniels, but I'm not sure they are going to just hand the starting job to JJ?

Is that your expectation?

They very well might if they have nothing but a Mullens caliber behind him...

I think Danny Dimes needs a full year in Father Kevin O’Connell’s Boys School For Wayward QBs.

I think KOC would like a 'competition' at QB for optics, but the same way other teams do it when they draft a rookie top 10: a foregone conclusion. I mean, when is the last time in NFL history that a team didn't just start a QB they drafted top 10? Did it happen ever? They have to start so you can see how they do live, no other way to know. The other veteran guys in the 'competition' have experience and a history to look back on.

Why would it bother anyone to just give JJ the keys? Its how its done with every rookie QB drafted highly. McCarthy should know the offense very well now. What other rookie QBs were ever in a serious competition with a really good veteran? Zero?

I think they trust their evaluation of JJ and expect him to be the starter in 2025. But the Vikings aren't idiots. They know they have to have some security. I'd be willing to bet one of my kids that they will not let both Sam and Daniel leave.

Both of these make sense to me...

Most highly drafted rookie QBs don't have guys like Jefferson, Addison, Hock, Darrisaw, et al. Sure, this should boost confidence in handing over the keys to JJ, but it also means the Vikings have a lot more at stake than those barren, top of draft teams who are typically starting over at QB. It's why I think the Vikings will want, if not quite a competition, then some legit security there. And I doubt Mullens is that guy.

I agree, they will have a competition of some sorts, but the expectation is their top 10 draft asset is the starter. He knows the playbook well by now, so he should excel vs last OTA/TC.

If not, they got a real problem.

Sticky raises a good point that rook QB's start all the time. So there is precedence to just handing him the keys to a top 3 offense in the NFL.

The issue (for me) is he doesnt have much on tape as a pro yet and if this was anything but the QB position? It wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue.

Its incredibly visible for the fans and as you say, the locker room mgmnt too.

Then why did they draft McCarthy then? I ask that sincerely, not sarcastically. KOC 100% knows what he has in JJM now, he's seen it. Of course he has to see it out when the bullets are live, but you get my meaning. I just don't see how it makes any sense bringing Darnold back at all unless he's the guy 100% and you get rid of McCarthy. This Darnold-JJM QB competition is never going to happen, it doesn't make sense for either Darnold nor McCarthy.

I say Plan A is McCarthy at QB1 and Dimes at QB2. Optimal.
