WTF is going on in MN?
#1
What the hell is going on in MN politics?  How is what this person doing being allowed?

Those with better insight feel free to chime in. I’m told republicans currently hold a 67-66 advantage in the house. The democrats have a seat they can get through a special election but can’t do said election until 3 weeks after a legislative session is opened. Which for now gives the republicans a 1 seat advantage.

What rights are being taken away?  Walz is governor. There’s a co-leader of the senate.

that fucking idiot freak would have gotten taken down with extreme prejudice if he tried that a few hours west of St Paul. I believe in free speech, but there is no room for that kind of behavior, want to act tough, be ready to get smacked in the mouth.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

You cant make the s hit up...

Its gone to the state supreme court to determine the interpretation of a quorum.

In the interim, nothing is getting done by elected officials who were elected to serve the people.

If I've got it right the R's hold 67 seats, the D's hold 66 seats.  There's 1 open seat because a guy that ran didn't live in the district.  The D's can't elect someone in a special election until the legislative session is opened.  If opened the R's claim they have a majority (they do) and elect a house speaker.

This whole pissing match is about house speaker to which the R's have the right to nominate.

The Minnesota Supreme Court sided with Democrats on Friday by saying that 68 members must be present to conduct business in the state House of Representatives, but it was unclear whether that would prompt the DFL to end a boycott or compel Republicans back into power-sharing discussions.

The unsigned order was the unanimous decision of the six justices who heard oral arguments on the dispute Thursday.

“Vacancies do not reduce the number required for a majority of each house to constitute a quorum. By statute, the total number of seats in the Minnesota House of Representatives is 134 seats,” the three-page order read.

Now let's have both sides sit down and hammer out an agreement on power sharing and get back to frigging governing.

Soooo couldn’t the 67 R’s pull a D and just refuse to show up lol? Seems by picking a number going forward there could be all kinds of quorum issues

WOW, what a mess!

I've been eyeing a return to the Midwest, and Minnesota was a strong contender...but friends in the area warned against moving to "MinneSomalia", and made several Walz references as well.

Yeah, might be a case of "nice place to visit, but...".
Wait, we failed to protect our QB in big games, again?

MAYBE THERE'S A LESSON HERE.

Meh...Its still the Minnesota I grew up in for decades.

Yes there is a larger than avg Somali group here, it is also very concentrated.

Do we not celebrate cultural differences anymore?

I've done business with many Somalis over the years and have found my connections engaging and rewarding.

No doubt the last 5 years have been difficult .MN has issues here like any state, but the social media portrayals vs daily living here are in stark contrast to each other.

This is still one of the highest quality of life you can find in the states with a sophisticated biz base, scandinavian vibe, great schooling and health care too.

We're just missing a Lombardi Wink

Oh, I love cultural diversity, though I'm absolutely disgusted by the rampant and shameless antisemitism plaguing much of the country (and the world, honestly)...and the ridiculous ways people try to "aw shucks" the behaviors of hamas, houthis, and other Iranian terror puppets.

Omar, obviously, is a despicable waste of carbon and oxygen.

I worked with many Somalians, Nigerians, Haitians, and others while I was doing parts/logistics for trucking companies hereabouts, and got along famously for the most part. There'd always be the outlier that liked to push Sharia into conversations, though, and things got awkward/ugly fast.
Wait, we failed to protect our QB in big games, again?

Absolutely they could...But the D's were also correct (by SC ruling 6/0) that there was not a quorum and therefore no senate/house lead yet and any bills passed the last 2 weeks are null and void...

My expectation remains same as b4 the Supreme Ct ruling: figure it out and get back to governing.
