The Athletic: Why KOC's extension was a no-brainer

Last summer, longtime NFL quarterback Colt McCoy was trying to explain what made Kevin O’Connell different from other NFL coaches.

“As smart as he is with X’s and O’s,” McCoy said, “he’s equally as good at legit coaching. Like, coaching.

What did that — coaching — mean?

“How do I bring together all of these players?” McCoy said. “How do I get these 25-year-olds and veteran players with families to believe in each other? People think, ‘These are just millionaires.’ But no, it can be a team.”

There are few weaknesses in KOC's game. A lot of very good coaches might excel in one or two areas but it's rare to have a guy who's good at all of them. Xs and Os, teaching, culture, media facing...he does all of this so well. We're lucky to have him.

I read this morning that it was finalized over the weekend, but they waited for the sports news cycle to pass a bit to not take away from the playoffs. Both sides obviously wanted it so it came together very quickly after the season ended.

wait.... I thought the lack of an extension was supposed to be an indicator of his failings as a HC and the Wilfs uncertainty of his future in MN?  (guess that one didnt age well)
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Why KOC's extension was a no-brainer:
34 wins - 17 Losses

No need to get fancy here. Winning buys you more time.

Damn, I had to "like" every post in this thread...

I really want to see the contract terms lol! I think the Wilfs had to open the pocket books even deeper when Johnson signed with Chi.

I am thinking a 3 year extension, so essentially 4 more years. I would be surprised if it was a 5 year term.

Chaz Walters claims 5 years $60 million. But it's Chaz Walters so...

Other sources are saying the team is staying mum while they negotiate with Kwesi on his deal.
