Its hard to argue that it hasn't been made worse by liberal policies. But its largely a matter of shit luck, the fuel was left laying around, the resources to fight it were absent, but fire and 90mph winds...well not much any fire crews can do with that, even with working fire hydrants.
Ive been wondering though, why arent they back feeding their fire system with ocean water? In a coastal city that is prone to wildfires, seems damn ( pun intended) stupid to not have the ability to tap a resource like the planets largest ocean. Had the same thoughts on the Hawaii fires. This threat was made public a few years ago when at least one or 2 major insurance companies were denied a rate increase in cali due to increased threats so they just canceled poliicies and moved out of the state.

It would be impossible to have handled this more incompetently at every level and over many years. They haven’t done the maintenance in their wooded areas. They’ve not used or misused funding from more than a decade ago. Their fire hydrants are either empty or not functioning. Reservoirs are drained that could be full Federal grants in place to get them water were turned down. Funding slashed to a fire dept. more worried about DEI than fighting fires. Communication failures at every level. Yes, there was bad luck, but Florida has a lot of bad luck, and they sure seem to minimize the impact of what’s thrown at them.

Concerning "libtard", which in its usage, shows ignorance:
too many people, especially on the political right, insist on stubborn ignorance of the definition: "willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas" (If that scares anyone, they're already life's b***hes). "relating to or denoting a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise" In a "free country", I cannot see the harm here. There are the other variants, including "generous amounts", and parties specifically named with the term in other countries...but, especially in any legit PoliSci course, the definition combines the two I've shared here. This is VERY different from "leftist authoritarianism", which is known for its "mental inflexibility, prejudiced beliefs, and holding of grievances". As many will note, authoritarianism from either "side" looks awfully similar. I think this talks about it effectively: "LWA attitudes are characterized by favoring punishment of those who dissent from group opinion, desiring to overturn existing hierarchies, expecting everyone to hold the same left-wing views, believing there is only one correct moral perspective, focusing solely on one’s own norms and boundaries, and needing rigid certainty. In other words, people high in LWA may struggle with skills like perspective taking, flexible thinking, and engaging with others of varying moral or personal beliefs systems." That sure sounds like Stalinism, Maoism, and the exact attitudes that fail the current dnc...at least, to me. Oh, the "-tard" bit? As classless as the earlier syllable ends up being ignorant.
Wait, we failed to protect our QB in big games, again?
MAYBE THERE'S A LESSON HERE.

Right now my only concern is for the people there, my family there and the 1st responders.
There is no reason to discuss this in political terms, least I wont if thats the thread direction. There will be plenty of time for questions, key learnings and what needs to change tomorrow to avoid a catastrophe like this.

I don’t think there’s any way or reason to avoid the political aspect of this. The state of CA is in the process of approving $50MM just to fight Trump initiatives. Between climate change hysteria, rampant hypocrisy of Hollywood elites, DEI, and taxation, this crisis is largely due to bad policy and horrible governing. I still care about peoples lives being affected, but I find it ironic how Biden and crew could give two shits about hurricane victims in NC, while lefties cry about elites in CA. |
