Very simple - franchise Sam if you're the Vikings.

At the end of the day? They hold all the cards.

I think Darnold would thrive under Shanahan (or with the rams too).

Sign Sam to trade and then try to keep Dimes with JJM for 25? I could Iive with that.

Brother, that is our #1, A+ option. But know I'm falling deeper in love with Mr. Sam Darnold. Next 3 games.....that will change my mind. And everyone knows how I love the #9 Purple King.

I know, me too...It feels sustainable with this surround and KOC as HC. Not a 1 year wonder.

Honestly, having JJM curate another year isnt the end of the world. Its not like he had a regular rook season to curate, he didnt. Virtual reality aint game play.

More info on the tag and trade. I just have a feeling since players hate the tag, the Vikings won't do it. But my goodness, is maintaining their player-friendly reputation worth more than a 1st round pick or more?

The Minnesota Vikings have an interesting situation with quarterback Sam Darnold. He signed a one-year, $10 million deal to be a bridge quarterback in the transition from Kirk Cousins, who left for the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, to 2024 10th overall pick J.J. McCarthy. Darnold has taken advantage of McCarthy being lost for the year after tearing the meniscus in his right knee during the preseason opener. His surprising career year has unexpectedly turned the Vikings into Super Bowl contenders.

The Vikings will able to accommodate a Darnold franchise tag in the $40 million neighborhood. Depending upon where the 2025 salary cap is set, the Vikings could have upward to $65 million of cap room before factoring a decision on him into the equation.

There's a possibility that the Vikings wouldn't get a 2026 compensatory draft pick by letting Darnold walk in free agency. It would depend on how aggressive the Vikings are in signing free agents. Since Darnold would clearly be the top quarterback available on the open market, using a franchise tag to trade him isn't out of the question.

The last time it happened with a quarterback was Matt Cassel in 2009. The Patriots traded Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2009 second-round pick (34th overall).

A comp pick is really just a pick at the top of round 4, and they may not get one since they have plans to spend in f.a.

The right approach would be for KAM to have his end of the year presser and say all options are on the table. We are talking to his agent about contract. The tag is possible. We would listen to trade offers.

Put the ball in the other team's court, don't go begging for a trade but instead deal from strength. Keep them wondering. I think they could get an offer from some team and get a decent return.

As for Sam there are still a lot of flaws in his game and he puts them on tape every week. He is being lifted up by coaching and receiving talent which is maximizing his physical gifts and hiding, to some extent, his slow processing and other deficits. I'm firmly behind the plan to move on to JJM with Jones as next year's reclamation project/backup. Hopefully KAM/KOC don't lose sight of the big picture because of an outlier year from Darnold.

Well he was taken at the bottom of the draft for a reason. Surrounded by the best talent in the NFC in his first couple of years, that can cover a multitude of sins but the offensive talent in San Fran has fallen off or been injured, and Purdy has fallen off with it.

I'm not sure why the system is taking two posts I made and mushing them together but, oh well.
