Cousins Benched
#11
So never say never when it comes to trying to win games in the NFL. Because they are in the 'playoff hunt', that's exactly why Morris is doing it, to salvage the season because Cousins is washed. They won't be going to back to Kirk. What a shit show contract for Atlanta. Minnesota dodged the proverbial bullet. Benched in the first season of a 4 year, $180 million deal......epic failure by Cousins and the Atlanta GM. Epic. Kirko is not an adaptable QB, you must have everything lined up perfectly for him. And now with diminishing skills and him at an all time low in confidence (he questioned himself this week as he doesn't know why he's sucking), who would want him? If they cut him, it'll just be another mistake for another team. He threw over 99% of the time from the pocket, lol. I can't begin to tell you how limiting that is for a modern offense.

You dont have to tell us,  we watched it live for to long,  but throwing from the pocket isnt an issue if he at least moved in the pocket ( like most of the greats have done,  but Kirk would litterally hit the top of his drop.....and drop anchor.  Some of this is tied to his achilles,  but much of this is just the same ol Kirk,  except now hes questioning himself and not throwing with confidence... but at least he got another bag of money.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Cousins started the season great, led the league in a few categories, then just fell off a cliff. It really boggles the mind to try to understand why. But he's been historically bad these last few weeks. 1 TD and 10 INTs in his last five games. I don't remember a stretch that bad for any QB, let alone an experienced 4X Pro Bowler.

It will be fun to watch Penix though.

How will Penix be better? I don’t see it. Kirko always bet on himself and ended up with a bag, makes sense he would get his wife home.

I watched them earlier in the year and the ball was coming out fast, but he’s not running a PA offense over there. Somebody found a hole in that scheme is my guess as Kirk is still Kirk. If you protect him he will carve you up.

Not sure which Kirk Cousins you are watching, because none of this applies to the last 5 games Kirk Cousins. Its not a 'hole in the scheme', its shit QBing by Kirko. You think Morris wanted to bench the $180 million dollar man before he even completed his first season in a playoff push? Its the last thing he wanted to do, but he did the hard thing....and the right thing. Kirk is either washed or damn close.

Penix may not be better, but you can't stick with a guy who's thrown 1 TD and 10 INTs in his last 5 games, no matter how much you're paying him. Up until week 10, Kirk was Kirk. Not perfect, but playing at a Pro Bowl level. So I don't buy the achilles or the KOC narratives.

When he was with the Vikings, if Kirk had a bad game he almost always bounced back the following week. He hasn't been able to do that in Atlanta. Is that a culture thing? I don't know. Because this was true long before KOC ever got here.

Crazy that he would fall off a cliff, but at his age you never know.  Havent seen Kirk since about 6 weeks ago on a national PT game, so yep I was guessing.

It's beyond comprehension what's happened to Cousins. I would say it was the achilles, but he started the season en fuego.
Underscores how fragile the dude is between the ears too. He's always been his own toughest critic and Kirk is just a different kinda of guy.
In hindsight, he needed a coach and surround like here in MN. That looked like it would be the case in ATL but it isnt.
I think their HC sucks
I am not convinced putting a rook in with the playoffs on the line is smart, but they didnt have a choice if Cousins confidence is shot.

Vikings were perfectly willing to sign Kirk again for a year or two. I am not sure we dodged a bullet, cause I think he would have still done well here in Viking waters.

We have an embarrassment of riches in the QB room right now...I hope our own team makes the right decision for our future.

This seems almost like the opposite of the Herschel Walker trade for us, when we sold our soul to the Cowboys for a bet that never paid off.
Atlanta pretty much bet the ranch, but someone in the draft room had a notion, and hedged their bet with the Penix pick. But this Kirko albatross of big money commitment, dead money is going to drag them down for years.
